Here's what you should bring: from ivillage
1. A nightgown, if desired -- some women prefer to wear the hospital gown. If you do bring your own, and are nursing, wear one that opens easily.
2. Socks or slippers
3. An extra pillow or two and a favorite blanket. Hospital bedding can be scarce.
4. Your favorite personal care items -- flavored lip gloss, makeup, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, hairbrush, deodorant and body lotion. Be prepared for the photo opportunities.
5. A focal point -- perhaps a photograph that comforts you.
6. Snacks -- your labor partner may not get an opportunity to leave the room. Many hospitals will feed you, but not your partner. And don't forget some healthy snacks for you (in case the food is as bad as everyone warned).
7. Cd player and your favorite cds
8. Mindless reading material and/or a deck of cards -- just in case you are in for a long wait.
9.Camera -- with several rolls of indoor film if you're not using a digital camera. You may also want to bring a video camera with an extra battery pack.
10. Health insurance card and photo id
11. An extra set of clothes that are loose-fitting. Most women leave the hospital looking (temporarily) like they are about four months pregnant.
12. Undies.
13. Nursing bras and nursing pads, if you are breastfeeding.
14. One newborn outfit for your baby. If it's cold, bring your own receiving blanket. Diapers will be provided.
15. Baby car seat -- your baby will not be released without one. Read the manual before leaving for the hospital.
16. The phone number of your pediatrician and a lactation consultant.
17.Spare change for hospital vending machines.
18. An extra duffel bag to bring home gifts from visitors, or free hospital items.
Hope these help you out!
