Thanks for sharing your

stopped just by going to A.A. meetings.
But pot was what I did. I think we could

Thanks hun,
Well when I was sick I really had no
choice as it was really messing with my
mind. then once the symptoms started
wearing off from the drug induced
psychosis I started again. I guess I just
made that decision y'know. I was TIRED of
the anxiety. I was TIRED of not having
proper relationships with my family. I
hated feeling as insecure as I did. I had
responsibilities at work since I was
managing a store and it was effecting my
work. You want to know something really
funny. I smoked for YEARSSS and you know
what. I didn't even like it. And all the
c**p that came with it. And though I
shouldn't suggest this as I'm sure people
might take this as bad advice BUT when
things got tough I drank to get over the
withdrawels and cravings. Thats how I
quit. I don't drink now the way i did then
but at the time it really helped me..

I agree with many of the posters here in
that there is on chemical reason to be
addicted.
The underlying causes for the
psychological addiction you get can be
harder to solve than a physical craving
though.
The key issue I have seen is with
motivation, your motivation to quit has to
be stronger than your urge to smoke so
finding and reminding yourself of that
motivation is crucial.
While some drugs may help I think someone
who has an addictive personality may be
worse off taking a drug to get off another
one but that is just my opinion.

I thought I'd also mention that when I was
diagnosed with drug indused psychosis.
Which is when you hear voices in your head
(for those of you that don't know..) your
perception of reality is distorted. It's a
very negative experience. anyhow to what I
was trying to get too. At that time before
I was sick I was a HEAVY marijuana smoker.
I used to smoke about a quarter a week (7
grams) Take speed probably every week ,
every couple, exctacy every now and then.
So I was pretty addicted.. So anyway when
I had my first psychitic episode in order
to deal with what I was going through and
to stop the addiction that I had I had a
case manager (mental health worker) She
was very nice , never critisied, always
compassionate, really listened to my
problems and made me realize that drugs
are a chemical addiction. ((Your body is
addicted to them along with the
psychological addiction. To anyone that is
struggeling There are people out there
that want to help you. They also realise
that for many people if not all theres a
reason youve become an addict. My reason
was because my mum was a heroin addict and
I was shipped half way across the country
from her. i didn't live with her for 17
years. That really messes with you. I
didn't understand drugs as a kid. No one
PROPERLY explained to me what was going on
with her. Just, Your mums a heroin addict.
She's sick. I thought she didn't love me.
Now I realise she had her own story from
when she was young and then on top of that
my dad fled with me half way across the
world. Well it didn't make her better let
me tell you. I watched a show of dr phils.
this kids mum got shot in front of him
when he was a kid. And also his brother.
He turned into a crack addict. (then got
clean and went to uni and got his degree
in something) Some people don't realise
theres stories behind being a drug addict.
))
Back to what I was trying to get to
earlier,
On top of that I was seeing doctors as you
can imagine as I was mentally ill. They
prescribed me valiums and temazapans (
sleeping tablets) i have a very addictive
personality and I'd say I got addicted to
the valiums but at the end of the day it
was better than being addicted to
marjuana, speed, extacy as heavily as I
was. Then slowly I took on action on the
valiums. (painful experience). All in all
it took me a year I'd say to get myself
back on track. Then I became just a social
user every now and then. Like I took a
pill once. Smoked weed for a short period,
took sudo ephedreme to lose weight for a
period. But I never had a hard core
addiction again. and then slowly I got
sick of the social addiction and just let
it all go.
Gee I can babble on.

All I can say to this is great thread and
I pray that those in need of the same will
follow some of these footsteps. A
wonderful world of clean and sober is
right outside your door. Along with some
reality of course.

Thanks sweetie, glad to be here. Thanks
for the warm and friendly welcome : )
Sorry to hear about your experience but
I'm glad you pulled through. If only
everyone could realise how much better
life is when you're not addicted to d***s.

talk to you friends and tell them to
respect your opinion to quit smoking. if
they continue to smoke around you or
(worse) offer it to you. just (haha) say
no. if possible make new friends that
don't smoke pot and try to hang out with
them more. don't buy it. start out small.
heres some steps i took.
1. talk to your friends
2. don't buy it
3. make some new friends that don't
smoke
4. don't put yourself in positions that
make you give in to it, cuz it's really
easy to say "oh, just one more time".
5. willpower
Source: I smoked everyday for 6 years, and
quit in January.

Hey there, I'm one of the supporters
here.
Did you just stop on your own? Without any
form of councelling, medication. Just
curious to know and I think it may help
others to know too.
