I posted some of this already but I think
it belongs here more than anywhere else.
I've been smoking for 10 years. Im 31.
I've had to stop plenty of times, either
because I was moving or couldnt get it for
reason, or was on a business trip. I am
what I consider successful, I have more
than one house, many cars, I am no
millionaire but I have saved up enough to
live comfortably and I still take business
trips. Never has marijuana come between me
and my business. thats not because it
couldn't; its because I wouldn't let it. I
know the difference between being a whoops
off and a productive person. I think whats
happening here is lazy ass people
shouldn't be smoking MJ.
If you live at home with your parents
(i.e. no real bills to pay) and have no
responsibility whatsoever, then smoking
weed is the worst possible thing you could
do. Why? Its primary purpose is to get
high. And when you are high, if you were
already a lazy medical question to begin
with, your just going to be an even MORE
lazy medical question when your high. Your
going to eat junk food, not exercise, sit
in front of the TV/computer and vegetate.
You know its true! The ones that work for
a living, and support their families, that
aren't lazy and do actual productive
things, should consider their health as
the culprit, I guarantee with 100% fact
the problems you face are only related to
marijuana in that you let it get that way
to begin with. No one has these problems
with their bodies without due reason and
its not because there is THC in your body~
if anything the THC was responsible for
keeping you on your feet the whole time.
Now you just feel like crap because thats
how you let yourself get!
So lets take MJ out of the equation for a
split second. If you spent your time in
front of a TV constantly, ate junk food,
and didnt get any exercise, I Would feel
like complete health question too! who
wouldnt! How many of these smokers
experiencing this "withdrawal" symptoms
maintain healthy productive lifestyles of
their own, especially while high? and you
know bless well if you smoke a lot and get
high alot your going to be sitting on your
ass all the bless time doing nothing. this
is far more dangerous to your health than
the actual smoking habit! Especially the
junk food! Obesity in America kills enough
as it is.
I have to stop smoking for 6 weeks at a
time out of every other year for my job.
That means I get 1.3 years of steady daily
smoking, then I have to stop for 6 weeks
to go on a business trip. I've never had a
problem leaving it and forgetting about it
till I got back. The ONLY thing I note is
that my tolerance to marijuana will
subside during the 6 week "sober" period,
and I wind up using far less of it when I
get back than normal.
Quote:

Drugs are not evil or good. They can't be.
They don't have a soul or spirit to be
evil or good. Drugs are chemicals and
plants. When a child is not raised
properly, s/he grows up with serious
issues. The serious issue is what causes a
person to commit the crimes...not the
drug! Jeffery Dohmer, the man who ate
kids, was a chronic alcoholic but his acts
are never blamed on alcohol. If he were a
meth addict the headlines would have read
"Meth Causes Man to Eat Children." Jeffery
Dohmer had serious issues causing him to
be evil...this is what caused him to
commit his insane acts. Get it?
I hate D.A.R.E. and know it is a joke. It
is propaganda. If you tell a kid marijuana
will make you crazy and cause you to
commit crimes and continue teaching in the
same fashion about coke, meth and heroin,
more than half the kids won't believe you
because their parents or uncles smoke pot
without becoming crazy or committing
crimes. The other half will experiment
with marijuana at least once and realize
it did not make them go crazy or commit
crimes leading the students to realize the
D.A.R.E. officer lied. The kid then begins
to reason: "They lied about marijuana so
they must have lied about meth also. Let's
try it!"
But the lies are slowly being realized for
what they were and individual states are
slowly beginning to lessen penalties for
weed possession. Hell, even one of the
states that led the charge to outlaw weed,
my home of Texas, has recently downgraded
possession of small amounts.
if I sit down and smoke MJ every minute of
everyday I am the one responsible when I
wake up the next morning and realize I
didnt get anything done the day before,
and now i feel like health question from
eating all that junk and sitting in a
chair all day. I have done this before,
but not smoking, playing video games!
EXAMINE YOUR LIFE STYLE.
Marijuana is nothing more than a hobby.
its about as addictive as video games.
When I stop playing world of warcraft I
also get "withdrawal" symptoms, similar to
what you all describe. vivid dreams of
playing WoW in my brain, cold sweats at
night thinking about epics. Its silly,
really is, to compare this to an actual
addiction. go smoke coke for a week then
tell me how you feel. Marijuana is more
harmless than potatoes, even the DEA says
so, get a grip, exercise, eat right, you
wont have a problem putting off
Marijuana.
And I am not a clouded person. I've got a
degree in mechanical engineering, and
didn't even use it in life, because I
didn't have to. I started and ran my own
business, work 70 hours a week to maintain
it, and marijuana has not slowed me down
one bit in the 13 years I've been working
at it. You have to use common sense. I
dont go to work stoned off my ass. I didnt
pass my final exam stoned either. You cant
be unrealistic and expect to be able to
function normally in life if you run
around high!
I Properly enjoy coming home after a hard
day of work and being able to take a hit,
relax, and have a good night and a good
sleep. I wouldnt be able to do that
WITHOUT marijuana.
In fact, I believe some have already
discovered their "withdrawal" symptoms to
be nothing more than "reality". Marijuana
was just helping them cope with their
problems, mentally. Its all up in your
head. The difference from drug USE to drug
ABUSE is where your lifestyle comes into
play. When I get up in the morning, I dont
take a hit and watch TV, I workout, cook
breakfast, do my dishes, and get my ass to
my shop before 8AM so I can start my
business up for the day. Stop blaming
marijuana for your problems. If you have a
problem getting motivated then you need to
find another hobby, or stop using it so
much. Even though it cant kill you,
Anything in huge amounts is not good for
your body. Eat apples, everyday, as much
as you smoked MJ, for as long as you
smoked MJ, then suddenly stop one day.
Wheres my apple? (cold sweats break out)
Find another cure for boredom if you cant
handle smoking hemp.

Wow Extinct. Your words of wisdom are
just so helpful for those who have come
here looking for support. I cant tell you
how nice it is to have someone spout off
about how its all in your head. Man if
only I had you around to tell me how good
your life was and how it was all inside my
head...you should have your own website!
People would pay big money to have their
feelings belittled and debated!
O and I have tons of proof about what I
went through getting off of
weed...yeah...its called my life! The
origins of my feeling dont matter, the
fact is that I felt them and no matter how
may things you cite, my feelings are my
own and very real.
You are you and I am me....just because
you don't feel these things and just
because its not as bad as MOST other
drugs, if not all, doesnt change the fact
that you are helping no one but yourself.
Why dont you try telling your dog all that
great info, im sure it would help him just
as much as it helped us.
PS I totally agree with your opinion
about MJ...honestly. I know tons of
people who are just like you and their
lives are great. Im not being sarcastic in
the least. Everyone is different. No one
here cares what is causing these feelings.
The fact of the matter is that stopping
smoking has changed my life for the
better.

My ex was a very heavy pot smoker for
about 16 years. In fact i never knew him
straight and its part of why we broke up
but thats a whole different story... He
recently quit under the supervision of his
GP who prescribed Zyban(?) which helps
people give up cigarettes. After a couple
of weeks he went off that and onto anti
depressants.
He now avoids all situations where he may
be exposed to pot. He deleted all his
'contacts' so he wouldnt be tempted to buy
it and he will go into another room etc at
parties.
I never thought he would (or could) quit
and he is much happier and wealthier now.
Maybe you should see your dr?

I also am having trouble. I can't stop
smoking weed either. I have smoked twice
in the last week, it is better than every
day, and I will get through it, but it
feels like such a health forum to relapse
after promising myself I was done.
I started one, because I couldn't find
anything else out there!

I'm a 21 year old female smoker in my
concluding year of university and I'm
doing very well...but I am also having a
hard time with quitting anything these
days. I`ve been smoking cigarrettes since
I was 14 and weed since 15. I've recently
started reading self help books like
``Ultimate power`` so to get some
motivation to progress my life in things
other than what I study but it has been no
use... I`m still smoking weed and trying
to find the miracle motivation drug. It
seems like living modestly and smoking pot
has started to work for me but the truth
is I`m largely dissatified. I don`t find
that I`m less intelligent béc of it but
it has definatly become my fulltime hobbie
and reward drug during exam time. I`m
single and attractive but I can`t seem to
date any one that doesn`t appear to have a
similar addiction issue. I think the
bottom line is that I``m enbarrassed,
scared and lazy. But I think for many of
us we are really great people that have
done amazing things that we`re rpoud of
but we don`t really know why or what it is
we are unhappy about and I think for most
of us it`s the drug habit. We feel like
lesser people. I feel have as desirable as
I could be. I`m scared to quit smoking
because I`ll gain weight and I`m scared to
quit weed because then I`ll actually have
to do something with myself... I don`t
know if this helps anyone. I`m just as
lost as you are but I`m trying to work
through it maybe if anything I`ll be able
to shed light on some of your own skeleton
thoughts. I think ultimatly this is a
battle with your mind. You really are
deciding to become another person...but it
takes a really special kind of person to
transform from something thats damaging
though so incredibly ritualistic. Wishing
us all the very best of luck.

Advice On How to Stop Smoking Marijuana Posted: 12-26-07 19:03pm
Advice to marijuana smokers who find it
difficult to quit.
If you smoke weed, marijuana, cannabis,
hashish, or whatever else you want to call
it, then let's agree on a few things
first. Marijuana smoking can be fun.
Smoking marijuana can help you relax.
Smoking marijuana can help you to 'chill
out'. Nobody could argue with that.
That it is against the law to smoke the
stuff does not change the fact that
smoking it can give you pleasure. We are
not interested in the pros and cons of
legalization either. The fact is, smoking
marijuana gives you pleasure and that is
why you smoke it.
However, like most things in life, there
is a price to pay. And if you have smoked
weed for some time, you are already aware
of some of the prices you are personally
beginning to pay.
Physically, you may not be what you once
were, and slowly your health may be
slipping away from you. Mentally, you may
have begun to lose the ability to think
straight, to remember important stuff and
to basically look after yourself.
Emotionally, you may not know what to
trust anymore, as the marijuana smoke
dissolves your passion and your enthusiasm
for your own life and dreams.
Sooner or later, every marijuana smoker
decides to quit.
You may have already tried? If so, then
you may have discovered the sickening
truth - that you can't quit. That you are
hooked.That the nagging withdrawal
symptoms will not leave you alone. So,
hardly surprisingly, you reach for another
joint and calm your nerves. But unless you
can find a way to quit it is going to get
worse - and you know it.
You may quit smoking weed for one week,
maybe two weeks - then it starts all over
again. The subtle, yet powerful withdrawal
symptoms simply take over and before you
know it, your smoking another joint.
This kind of behaviour can repeat itself
for years, as your life slowly
disintegrates. Your health slowly ebbs
away, the opportunities of your education
and career simply disappear, they vanish
as other 'drug free' people simply get on
with their lives. Maybe worst of all, your
relationships fail and hearts are broken
unnecessarily.
Then comes a time when you need or want to
stop smoking Marijuana (weed).For some
people it is not hard at all but for some
others have quit a difficulty to stop
smoking Marijuana cigarets. I am going to
help you out with a little. With some
information that can help you out.
Let's Begin...
Decide positively that you want to quit.
There are no if's, and's, or butt's,
that's it! Your quitting! Try to avoid
negative thoughts about how difficult it
might be, and concentrate on the benefits
of success.
Studies of smokers who successfully quit
smoking show that one of the most
important traits of a successful quitter
is their belief that they have the ability
to quit smoking. Remember, anyone can quit
smoking. It does not matter about age,
health, or how long you've been smoking.
Half of all people who have ever smoked
have quit.
List all the reasons that you want to
quit. Every night before going to bed,
repeat one of the reasons 5 times and
think about why that particular reason is
important to you.
Develop strong personal reasons in
addition to your health and obligations to
others. For example, think of all the
money you spent on Marijuana, all the
times you risked being arrested when
buying or smoking Marijuana.
Successful people in all walks of life
become successful through planning. The
same is true for smokers who successfully
quit smoking. You must create a plan that
you will follow daily.
Begin to condition yourself physically:
Start a simple but efficient exercise
program. Now this does not mean that you
have to run out and get a gym membership.
At least pick up the pace a bit, a swift
walk around the block or a bike ride would
do if that is something that you body is
not used to. Drink more fluids; get plenty
of rest; and avoid fatigue.
Research shows that smokers who take up a
regular exercise program have a much
higher quit-smoking success rate. The
higher the level of activity, the higher
the success rate. Smoking and exercise
simply arenâ??t compatible. A Gallup Poll
found that smokers who exercised were
twice as likely to quit smoking versus
smokers who did not exercise.´
If you are having more difficulty to stop
smoking Marijuana. A audio program can
help you out even more. This audio program
help me out very much
[edit for advertising]
Wish you the best of luck. Hope that all
goes well.
Sincerely. Bruno H O

Pot Is Goop For the Lungs Posted: 01-02-08 04:26am
started smoking pot again for bout 2 yrs
but am stopping now for the new year, its
a waste of money, and it makes you fat and
stupid. It screws with your memory and
you need that to get ahead in life. Pot
this way college the other, its so true.
But god dam its all this medical weed now
in cali that is so potent, and addictive.
Pot works in the pleasure areas of your
brain so everything like having
intercourse or being truly happy is done
for you with just a few rips. I dont
know. But good luck to anyone who wants
to quit, cause that crap is addictive

Marijuana is NOT addictive. It is all in
your head. If you really have will power
you will quit. I reiterate- Marijuana is
NOT addictive.

This is my first post here
and I have to say, from reading the other
replies in this thread, it is absolutely
absurd for someone to say that weed isn't
really harmful, that its not a real drug
therefore they don't recommend rehab.
Obviously these peole have never been
addicted to it...They have never used it
heavily for an extended period of time.
Marijuana is absolutely destructive if
used excessively! Take my word on this
people. It may not physically kill you
like cocaine or heroin, but it will slowly
take away everything you have emotionally
and mentally!!! Unless you have been
accustomed to using it as regulary as you
eat and drink, you should not say that its
simple to quit...Just say no...Chew gum,
etc. In my case, i've been smoking all
day every day for the last 7
years...Adding up to 14+ grams in less
than 6 days if i'm alone...With my friend,
it goes up to that much in a single night!
Mix that in with a couple bottles of
beer every day, and its a lethal mix! To
say that it's not a real drug, and it
doesn't do much a harm is simply put,
crazy! Anything in excess is potentially
lethal, and when you get used to something
all the time, you expect that feeling all
the time, it becomes the norm. My friend
for example, can't go to the bathroom
anymore unless he smokes a joint right
before...I can't go out in public without
sunglasses anymore...My eyes look like
hell to say the least! In excess, even
this 'recreation' drug will no doubt kill
you slowly but surely! Be sure you know
what your saying before saying
it...Because it sure doesn't sound like
most are speaking from experience. Most
who are seeking to quit here are longtime
and heavy users...Its an extremely
difficult task...Mainly because you don't
know what to do with the time you now have
on your hands...The time you usually spend
high...In which case anything can tie you
down, and time just flies by! Now time
is moving at a snail's pace...What to
do???
I just decided to sign up too, after
reading this post. First off let me say I
am 23, in college, and I have been playing
hockey since I was born. Now, I also have
been smoking weed, everyday if I can,
since I was 15. Thats 8 years buddy, and
let me start off by telling you that it is
physically impossible to smoke up to 14
grams in a night. If you really have been
smoking weed for "7 years" you would know
more about the plant than what you have
posted here. You would also know that
weed isn't an addicting drug, and causes
very little if any "mental" damage to you.
The only "mental" damage I've experience
or heard of anyone experiencing is a loss
in short term memory. Which is not
permanent, your body rebuilds memory cells
very quickly, and my short term memory
will be operating at 100% in less than 6
months If I were to quit.
This recreational drug will kill you? I'm
sorry buddy, or should I say kid, you have
not one bit of knowledge of this plant at
all. That being said I think I am
experience or "qualified" enough, if you
will, to answer the question.
Remember, addiction is mental. Meaning
it's all in your head, hell I'm more
addicted to hockey than I am weed .
But remember with a little perseverance it
is very easy to quit. First off I noticed
it is harder to quit when you are always
around other people who are smoking. So
if you know there are going to be people
smoking there I would suggest staying away
or not going. Just make sure you tell
your friends and anyone else you smoke
with that you are quitting. Try
exercising or working out, or playing a
sport. Anything that will get your mind
off of smoking!

i quit Posted: 03-05-08 13:07pm
i smoked pot every day for one and a half
years until two months ago. I was
extremely psychologically dependant on it
and it took me a long time to understand
what that really meant. it seemed so
ideal, smoking all the time and not
worrying about anything but when i could
smoke again because it was always so easy
to do , but i slowly grew further and
further away from the person that i used
to be and i alienated myself from everyone
and everything. then i realized that i
didn't even know who i was anymore. the
only thing that can make you quit is
determination and your own willpower. you
have to choose whole heartedly to quit,
and begin living the way you were meant to
live. you have to realize that life is
good and that pot undermines your way of
thinking. quitting has caused me to be
very depressed- or maybe i just realized
how depressing my life had become from a
sober/realistic perspective. i realized i
have a million things to do in this life
and there is no room for pot. excersizing
is good to do when you quit, (because i
didn't get much exercise for 1 1/2 years.)
one of the reasons that it was extremely
hard for me to quit is because i am a
musician and i would always smoke before
and when i played music. I worried that
my music would suffer when i quit because
i live for my music and pot made me
relaxed and creative. the truth however
was quite contrary to my fears. i not
only have been able to think more
concretely about my music since i quit but
my regained since of reality has made my
art way more meaningful to me. So if you
are still smoking my heart goes out to
you, and i want you to realize that your
real character will show itself when you
learn to get through your problems without
smoking and especially when you quit. by
the way quitting has been the hardest
thing i have ever had to do in my entire
life but it is qite nice to be feeling
like myself again and it is certainly
worth it.

You want to quit smoking anykind of stuff?
well buy "SUNFLOWER SEEDS" every
singleday, its cheap and it will give you
results. Or go to wallgreens or any other
good Pharmacies and buy pills for it. They
are actually candy pills that can make you
stop smoking. And if you want try and
watch videos of people that smoked and
look how they ended, then picture that
situation on you, because it will happen.
- Or if you can, make a smart guess at
google to take you to a website like
"non-smoking pills" or something.
Read the information
Hope you're intereted in quitting smoking
for real because like everyone knows
smoking can kill you. and for real, who
wants to die?
Good Luck!

Sure - i'll just quit Posted: 04-19-08 21:39pm
I'm 24 years old next month and i've been
smoking weed heavily for around the past
six years.
I gave up last weekend, let me tell you
right now i feel like hell, i seriously
can not cope with out it . I'm so stressed
and irritable - every little thing is
annoying me and i have spent the last hour
crying becouse i just can't do this
anymore....it's too hard!
I have tried to give up so many times
before .. but i always crumble.
I have been on anti-depressents now for
about 18 months now, i feel i just can't
cope with life and smoking a weed took all
that away and made me feel human again.
If someone was to tell me now - "just tell
youself you can do his" i would really
cause them some harm.
I'm sorry if i seem to be ranting but i
hate this - i need help, but where do i go
and what do i do ?
I know that i can't carry on like this -
but it's too hard to quit. I wish there
was a button on myself that i could just
flick and i would never pick up a joint
again .... but clearly that will never
happen.

Hey, Kitti.
Listen, you don't need to do this alone.
I know EXACTLY how you feel. Stress is
what I was feeling ALL OF THE TIME before
I quit. And depression was my best
friend. Don't worry, it's not all that
strange.
I'd suggest that you seek help from some
folks from either A.A. or M.A. Do you
live near a college campus? This is a
great place to look for help. There are
ACTIVE steps you can take ... and you
don't need to do it alone. Once you admit
that you're POWERLESS to doing anything,
you can begin to build a life again.

Hi, i hope I can lend a hand here. I
smoked pot for years. i started smoking
socially and then a few yrs later I smoked
a little heavier, stopped, started
stopped, through in some other conc**tions
and ended up getting really sick. i was
diagnozed with drug induced psychoses.
Mainly from the pot. It's been six yrs now
and I am fully recovered and fully clean.
Can i just say it was hard to stop but
once you finally make the decision to stop
you're on the road to recovery. look at it
from that point of view.
Do you hate hybernating, not having proper
relationships with your family, being
insecure, not fitting in to society,
having an addiction, wasting money on pot,
wasting you're life away. I know it's hard
but you want to stop because you see that
what you're doing is a problem. it's
affecting your lifestyle in a way that you
don't like. You want to be a better
person, Am i right. you know YOU ARE that
better person.
Go and there and get you're life back. YOU
ARE WORTH IT. You are that better person
you want to be. WHY? Because you want to
quit. Go spaek to your gp if you're not
happy. I wouldn't suggest going on anti
depressents though unless you feel they
work for you. I certainly didn't like them
they made me feel like space man.
Hun, the only person that can make that
decision for you is you. You have the
power to make that choice. You need to
love yourself enogh to make that
decision...

Thanks for sharing your experience,
Harmony. How did you stop? I stopped
just by going to A.A. meetings. But pot
was what I did. I think we could really
use some more positive people like you on
this forum. Hope you post some more!

hey, stoners Posted: 05-19-08 08:29am
I just signed up here because I might have
multiple sclerosis and I noticed this
thread on the front page. I'll say just a
few things:
If you take a drug several times a week
and it isn't a prescription you are an
addict. This is plain and simple.
Marijuana's physical and psychological
effects are well known. There isn't a
physical dependency but there is
definitely a potential for psychological
dependency.
Quitting anything without the support of
others is difficult. Stop smoking dope and
you start drinking, or eating, or doing
something else in an addictive fashion.
If your life is a mess and marijuana
blunts the pain ... well ... get off it
and you'll be more focused and have more
money (unless, of course, you're dealing)
Just my $0.02 ... having not smoked the
stuff for more than a decade.
