Q: Is This What You Call Sleep Apnea?

I was told by my mom that some nights I would scare her cause it sounded like I was choking and could not breathe. She would wake me up to see if I was ok. I would tell her that I did not know I was having trouble breathing. I know I snore but for some reason it got worse after a serious cold I got. I know that the sinus cavities are filled. Also recently I would wake up coughing like something was just in my throat. Is this a problem?

Sleep apnea
n.
A temporary suspension of breathing occurring repeatedly during sleep that often affects overweight people or those having an obstruction in the breathing tract, an abnormally small throat opening, or a neurological disorder.

It could be. I'd say you should call up your doctor and ask him/her but they'll just ya that you need to go in there and blow lots of money :p I think you'd need someone to take a look at your throat and listen to your breathing. So it could be but it's a lot easier to find out if the person sees you in person. I wish there were another way to find out. I don't have health insurance and I dread having to go to the doctor. Now i've got this ringing in my ear and I can't sleep at all.
