Q: Lexapro And Weight Gain

Hi:

i have been on lexapro for 2 years now and am getting off of it. I am also on depo. I have gained about 40 pounds in the last 2 years. I believe it is due to both of the drugs. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, will the weight come off when I stop taking the medications?

I was on both. Lexapro makes you lose weight (by speeding up your thyroid function) but depo made me gain 30 lbs.
If anything I would say it is the depo. That stuff is evil.

Depo I swear comes from hell. I mean, I love not having to take a pill every day, but the stress of the weight gain sucks!! It's enough to put me back on lexapro!! :)

But my husband was on lexapro and had no side effects! I just didnt think it worked very good.
Good luck... I know prozac (or however you spell it) is suppose to supress you hunger.
Goodluck.

Wt Gain
I have gained weight since taking lexapro. They say it is not a side effect with this antidepressant but I think they are wrong. My opinion: I would rather have a little weight gain then an anxiety attack! But I am 44

I've been on lexapro for a little over 2 years and haven't gained any weight. I upped my dosage about 4 months ago and still haven't gained any extra weight. That I can tell, anyhow.

I was on lexapro for a year and I did put on weight, maybe about 10 pounds. I have recently come off it as it was giving me symptoms of bipolar disorder and the dr didnt know if I actually had it, or the lexapro was causing symptoms.
It seems so far it was the lexapro giving me the symptoms of it. However since I have come off it, and especially whilst coming off it, I was having panic attacks at least 15 times a day.
It has settled down, but im still really anxious. I hope it goes away soon

i refused to take depo....It made me a zombie! It is a very strong drug!

Lexapro....I have been on it about two years. Yes, I have gained about 25 pounds, but I am not sure the drug is to blame. If so, would someone please let me know so I can switch!!!!

I was on lexapro for about 3 months and am in the process of getting off. I gained 15 pounds in about 2 months with the lexapro and can't do anything to get it off! It's awful!! And I know that's what it's from because my weight stays pretty constant and I started gaining weight immediately when I got on lexapro. I have had to buy a whole new wardrobe. Very expensive and not good for my depression! I just switched to cymbalta so i'm very nervous to see how that's going to work and whether i'll lose some of the weight I gained with lexapro. I also turned into a crazy person on lexapro. It really didn't help my depression. I had been on prozac for 5 years and loved it but i'm in a serious relationship and prozac decreased my libido. So I switched to lexapro and all of a sudden I remembered what it was like to be depressed again. Has anybody who's gained weight from an anti-depressant switched to cymbalta lately?? If so, what was the result?
