Q: Itchy Throat, Allegies, White Particles On My Left Tonsil.

Hi! I have bad allergies and they started rather abrumptly a few years ago. My symptoms were mostly lots of throat drainage and phlegm in my throat, but then I started getting an itchy throat. I started taking claritin to stop the itch, and to prevent the sore throat that I would get from the drainage. A few months ago, I started sneezing these white particles, which are the size of, or atleast comparable to the size of a piece of oatmeal. I looked at one under a microscope and it just looked like a glob of brown cells. They also have a strong, bad smell. So, recently I realized that when I have an itchy throat, it is because one of these white globs was on my left tonsil. So, I got the end of a long teaspoon, and stuck it back there, tried not to gag, and scraped it off, and another one appeared from behind the flab of skin that half way covers my tonsil, and I scrapped that one off too. ( after I removed them from my tonsil, the itching stopped. I should also say, that claritin doesn't help me much any more, either). I have also observed that my left tonsil sticks out farther than my right one does. My question is: what are these white globs? What is causing them? Where do they come from? How can I remedy them? Etc. Thanks! Incase y'all need to know my age I am a 17 year old girl.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I get them all the time. My doctor said there are folds in your tonsils that collect food. I think he even referred to them as calcium deposits. They smell aweful!!! And are annoying- but are not of any concern. Just try to get them out whenever they are there. Hope that helps.

White Globs
Mine aren't exactly white; they're more like cream and they do smell really bad; like really strong bad breath so I always thought they were food particles from the back of my tongue and just got built up to the glob but then the last four days they've been bothering me. Like something was in the back of my throat that I couldn't get out so I looked back there and saw something that looked like a cream-colored pimple and when I touched it, particles were on my finger so I started to push at it to get if off and it came out except it was much bigger than the little pimple I thought I saw (the size of a piece of oatmeal). I was wegded in there on my left tonsil also.

Hi guys, this stuff are called tonsoliths. Some people get them really bad and have to have their tonsils taken out to cure it. I will send you a link for other people's experience when I find it.

I had a rather large tonsillith recently--was off-white/cream-colored and looked something like an old piece of chewed gum. I coughed it out when my throat felt kinda itchy. I'd never had one (that I knew of), and it really freaked me out. When they break up they smell *terrible*.

But yeah, these things have a range of colors and sizes--and apparently post-nasal drip contributes to them, so that's easily a cause of yours.

Yes, that's true. I continued my search today for a cure of pnd (post nasal drip) and this looks so good I am planning to place an order for their nasal drops.

mind you, I was equally excited when I found out about therabreath products but sadly their nasal spray did not do the trick for me.

White Lumps
Okay, I have had these white lumps in my tonsils. Then, I had my tonisils out! I still have the lumps in my throat. It is like they are deeper in my throat and it is very frustrating. Do any of you have any advice for getting these nasty things cleared away... Thank you!

Same Thing Here
Hey guys
i have the same thing:
big tonsils, lots of craters.

Hence I snore.

Somehow I think it all started when I was 18 (im 26 now)
maybe related to some mental pressure... I dont know...

I noticed there are white lumps sticking from my tonsils, the left one especially... I press on them like a zit and they come out.

When they come out they spray a bad smell in my mouth and I get sticky saliva for a few moments.

When I crush them in my hand they smell like food stuck in the tooth for a week.

Its the smell bacteria make when they digest food...

The doctor didnt find bacteria in my throat.

And the worst is that I get phlegm stuck in the back of my throat and has to clear it every few minutes. My girlfriend hates when I do that...

It has been my prayer for these past 8 years to hear of a solution.

There is no way im taking my tonsils out. There must be another way!

Though its relieving to read im not the only one....

Oh and another thing... I rarly have a runny nose, it is almost always dry and lumpy... So I pick it alot, or it will get blocked I guess...

I don't think there is a "cure" for tonsil stones. It's just a result of having larger than average tonsil craters--stuff just gets stuck there. I'm pretty sure that even if you get your tonsils out, you'll still have the craters, and as long as you have those, food, mucus, and everything else will get stuck in there and create these things.

There Must Be a Solution
I've given up with conventional medicine
i'll give a chance to alternative medicine.. Acupuncture and chinese stuff

there must be a solution... We just have to find it.

By the way... I didnt always have those craters... I think its a result from tonsils infections.

Maybe we need a yound vigorous doctor to come and read the forum

I don't know how/when you get them. I don't remember having any build-up problems until the last few years, and I haven't had any tonsillitis, colds, nothing.

I haven't had a tonsil infection since I was really small, and the only throat thing since then was strep when I was 14 (ten years ago).

Dido for me too. I've had these lumps since I was a young teenager, and they are more frequent now (i'm 21 now). But a more annoying problem is the phlegm that accumulates in the back of my throat. I have to frequently clear my throat very loudly.

I'm am surprised to find these two symptoms are related!

""oh and another thing... I rarely have a runny nose, it is almost always dry and lumpy... So I pick it a lot, or it will get blocked I guess...""

is having a lot of dry mucus in you nose related to all this too?

Whitish Lumps On Tonsils
Many years ago my son's tonsils were covered repeatedly with white pustules, and repeatedly the dr gave penicillin which would remove them for a little while, until the next time he became ill with tonsillitis. Eventually I was given sound advice by a neighbour, and a book to read, which guided me into naturopathic remedies for ailments. We got rid of all the types of food out of the cupboard and frig that did not constitute 'natural', and started eating heaps of raw fruit and veg, a few cooked vegetables, starch only once a day and protein twice a day. Within one month his tonsils became normal for the 1st time in his short life, 4 years old. He has never had it back. You may not have tonsillitis of course, it may be as some say, food stuck in crevices etc. But thought this might be helpful to someone. Regards to you all.

'chronic cryptic tonsillitis' appears to be the proper name given to this condition. If you search for that name on the internet you will see heaps. I might add also that there are natural blood purifiers in the health shops that can bring about remarkable results.

Usually they do, and can be quite putrid Tmiller.

Do they always come up or do you have to pick them out? Also is there not a remedy for this, like a throat wash or something?

Tonsilloliths - Yuck
I stopped getting these as frequently when I stopped taking claritin D. My doc recommened "aggressive gargling" with salt water - but that didn't help as much as just poking at them with a q-tip.

Also - I wonder if drinking through a straw all the time would help with these? Apparently it causes enough suction to give you dry sockets (sucks the blood clot out of the wisdom tooth hole) when you have your wisdom teeth pulled. I wonder if it would pull all the little ton-silly-liths out too!

The white spots are the infection. IT is chronic tonsilitis and I had it growing up and getting my tonsils removed improved it. Smile
