Im not sure if im pregnant or not becuz I
have signs+symptoms but tests are all neg.
I don't wont to carry on waitin till my
scan (3weeks) like my doc wonts me to
becuz im alredy likely 2 be about 3
months. So heres the q. If ask to take
folic acid and prenatal vits now and it
turns out im not, will it affect me in any
way (for example wil my periods or future
fertility be affected)
and folic acid is only taken from when u
1st get preg til 12th week. So if I start
takin it now when im probly 12 weeks preg.
Wil I still take it for 12 weeks (which
will mean im 6mths then)?Becuz im not sure
if thats safe to do. They say take it til
your 12th week meaning not after it so
wont it be a bad thing if I start after
the 12week and carry on with them. And if
preg your meant to be on iron tablets from
the 16th week, are iron tablets and
prenatal the same thing. And one more
thing how long do I take
folic/iron/prenatal tabs fo?

There should be no long term effects
caused by using prenatal supplements.
I might be wrong but I don't see why you
should need to take the folic acid after
the 12th/13th week because the spinal cord
as developed by this time.
If you don't want to go back to see your
gp because the scan results then you could
always ask the advice of a pharmacist when
you buy the supplements.
Thats what I dont understand... The fact
that they say take the folic acid til your
12 weeks (which is right for babys spinal
cord) but then why has my doc said I could
be 2/3months if I am preg. But becuz itz
not confirmed on any tests she said that I
should wait. But if I wait and take them
after 12weeks of pregnancy there wont be
no point wil there? My doctor must be a
crook

I have a friend who takes prenatal
vitamins for her hair and nails. There
shouldn't be any harmful effects of taking
it and not being pregnant. In fact, it
even says on the bottle "before, during
and after pregnancy"

I take folic acid all the way through
pregnancy- it's in my "pregnancy and
breastfeeding" supplement- so i'll be
taking it afterwards too.
It's actually recommended to take
pre-natal vitamins before you get
pregnant- when you are trying.
It's just a multivitamin that also
includes a few things specially required
in pregnancy, it will do no harm for you
to take them any old time. Even a man
could take it with no ill effects.

It definitely doesn't hurt to take either
supplement if you're not pregnant. Folic
acid is a b vitamin, so whatever your body
doesn't need, it just pees it out. The
main difference between prenatal vitamins
is that they have less vitamin a in them
(too much isn't safe for baby), more b
vitamins which baby needs and more calcium
and iron which baby need as well... So,
they are definitely safe at any time and
will not affect future fertility. Hope
this helps!
