Hi, I was wonderinf if someone could help
me in anyway. Since I was 17 (im now 21)
I have been suffering from sleep
paralysis. It doesnt occur everynight, it
usually comes in episodes. Usually when
it happens I cant move, I try and scream
and I cant, and there is a horrible
presence in my room.
Recently however something has been
happening that doesnt usually happen. I
have woken up not been able to move etc..
However this time, the left side of my
body has been shaking and twitching. Im
aware of it but I xcant stop it or control
it, and its really hard to come round.
Im concerned about this, and would
appreciate it if anyone knew what it was
or had any advice.

I Have Sleep Paralysis Posted: 10-02-05 11:55am
I happen to have sleep paralysis my self
but I dont experiance the shaking is you
body in an akward posistion, or does this
happen no matter what way you sleep.
Because my arm often goes numb when I
sleep a certain way. You left side could
be in an position where its just natural
for it to shake. Other wise I dont know
this could be a more severe type of sleep
paralysis that you may want to get checked
out by your doctor.

Sleep Seizures ? Posted: 10-15-05 21:10pm
I dont think its because I am sleeping in
a strange position, I usually lay on my
stomach, but when this happened I was on
my side.
I have been to see my dr, and have an
appointment with a neurophysiologist.
I was in a car wreck a few years ago
and had a head injury that left me in a
coma for 3 days, it was right after this I
started suffering from sleep paralysis, so
I think perhaps the dr thinks its
something to do with the injuries I
sustained.

I've had sleep paralysis for about two
years now (even though iv'e only recently
found out what it is) and there are ways
to help.
-my symptoms
a. "roaring" in ears
b. Can't move/ entire body is shaking
c. Vivid dreams;can anticipate waking up
d. Happens just before I go to sleep
e. Intense fear
f. Hard to breathe
g can't call for help (jaw too clenched?)
h. Bad feeling/ presence in room
- when having an attack:
i know it's scary, but first concentrate
on breathing slow and steady. Then, to
"wake up" start with moving the little
things( toes, eyelids, fingers, ect) then
you should gradually get control back.
When you wake up, don't go back to sleep
in the same position you were in
(especially not on your back)
-prevention:
a. Try to relax more in general; this
disorder is known to be made worse by
stress.
B. Don't switch up your sleep patterns
c. Try raising the head of your bed 6
inches with wooden blocks. It doesnt help
prevent, but for some reason it helps you
"wake up" easier; you can have more
control over your body.
D. Do not nap during the day
e. Go to bed early
* about 1/4 of the population will
expirience one attack in their
lifetime...I have it about 3 times a
month. There is medicine to be perscribed
for extreme cases (at least once a week)
* there are types of epilepsy that involve
sleep seizures and localized seizures (
ie: left leg and arm, ect...) but I don't
know much more than that.
- let me know if this works out for you.
Good luck
