Just Diagnosed

This is my first post so bear with me.

I have just been diagnosed with schizophrenia. I am 34 years old. My wife claims that I have been exibiting some mild symptoms for years but that I just went over the edge recently.

I am looking to hear some success stories. Has anyone been diagnosed and been able to successfully return to work? I fear that I am going to end up on long term disability. I need my job to keep me active. Anyway please post your stories in this thread.

I was diagnosed in 1995 and for two years struggled to keep my head above water but her in the last two years I have gone down hill rapidly. I just lost my job to due to my disease and I don't feel I don't want my wife around me anymore so I made the move to separate from her and all I know......I guess you could/can say it is always different for each person, how strong you are does not matter it's the fact that you must not give up the fight as I did and now im back at square one. :(

You are diagnose with schizophrenia at age thirty-four. Do you have hallucinations?

I'm not easily accepting my diagnose. I'm not sure if i'm in denial. Once i'm clear in what I have, I can recover better. I have no successful stories to tell :(

This must have been a shock to hear the diagnosis. I have members of the family with schizophrenia, so I understand how you feel.

I am also a nutritional psychologist interested in the nutritional aspects of schizophrenia. Although clinical nutrition has certainly not found all the answer there are some things you can do nutritionally to improve the symptoms. There are ways of overcoming some of the side effects of medications but whatever you do, you must always let your doctor know what you are doing, because if there is any improvement at all he has to adjust the medication.

A good source book is:

werbach,m.R.(1991), nutritional influences on mental illness, a sourcebook of clinical research, third line pres, inc.Tarzana. Cal. Look up section on schizophrenia

please read:

the nutritional aspects of schizophrenia

go to page 7.

Please discuss this with your psychiatrist.

Hello,

i was diagnosed as schizoeffective (schizophrenic and bipolar) two years ago. I have detailed my experiences at the following webpage. It is quite lengthy but comprehensive. Please note, I have a section on working as a schizophrenic and disability. Please check this out. If your experiences mirror mine in any way, please e-mail me. Even anonymously. I am collecting information to provide to my doctors as proof that these experiences are real and not delusion.

Thank you.
