Q: Hysterectomy Recovery Period
asked by: chrissi on December 2nd, 2003

I recently had a total hysterectomy along with removal of 3 good sized masses (no cancer thank god) and removal of severe endrometriosis. I stayed home for 4 weeks and probably overdid it at times with being bored so I would clean or go out somewhere. I am back at work 4 weeks later and have found that at the end of the day, my pelvic area around the scar feels swollen and rather heavy or numb. Is this a normal effect during recovery or am I overdoing it?

Hi, I don't think its really anything for you to be overly worried about.
Just try to keep the area clean and don't wear anything tight until you
get approval from your doctor. I was told the numb feeling was from
nerve endings at the skin that was cut and it takes a while to heal. I
have been cut on twice and know its no walk in the park. I went back
to work 4 weeks as well, as a heavy press operator and that was too soon. Just take it easy girl, and if you think you have a problem that
needs checked, don't hesitate. Its your health, you know better than
any one else.

Good luck
