Aed's And Seizures

:?: just cruious.....

I was wondering if there is anyone on here who started taking aed's and the seizures stopped completely...For good...Never had another seizure?

I read so many posts about people who struggle with meds and seizures; having to change or add to their meds all the time, and that leads me to believe that meds may "help" but not actually "stop" seizures. Is that correct?

My sis is doing fine on the dilantin her neuro gave her (so far) but we're just curious if it's possible that she will be seizure free with the first drug they tried. We're still new to this and trying to understand it.

Having said all of that, we realize there are no guaratees in life, but i'd just be curious to know what the percentage rate is of being seizure free on medication. Thanks.

i'm sorry no-one has replied.I have been epileptic for nearlly 6 years now.I'v been on 3 types of medicine since diagnosed....Eppilim,phenetoin and lamictal. My siezures never stopped. So I have just (a week ago) been introduced to another drug....Keppra.Maybe that will be different.
When I was diagnosed I was in hospital after having my daughter by c.Section.I had 30 siezures in 24 hrs.And I was completly 'out of it' for 3 weeks.I was in a coma, had more siezures, had a blood clot removed from my abdomen...I had a rough time. as this all happened so fast,i don't know what my epilepsy would be like without my meds. Some docs even have a method that my siezures that happened when I was in hospital was part of my illness,so I didn't need to be put on meds. But as i'v become used to taking them, its hard to come off them.I still have siezures, but if you read most aed's side affects, siezures are one of them.A bit wierd if you ask me!
I'm really sorry I havn't brought you any hope.I suppose its just my opinion. There may be other people out there who do get cured completly (&my god do I wish I was 1 of them).
I really hope your sister is 1 of these people as I wouldn't wish this illness on anyone.Good luck. And let me know how she gets on.

Thanks for your reply, shelbe.

I will definitely let you know how she does on these meds. We're hoping they picked a good one for her without having to bounce her from med to med. So far she's doing good and has no side effects. I realize that can change, though, so I keep that in mind.

Sorry to hear about all you've gone through. It is not a pleasant trip, I can tell that already. I just have to keep repeating my favorite phrase of late....."it is what it is."

thanks, again.
