Vaginal Fissures...cuts?? What Is This? Posted: 09-23-05 15:42pm
My last period ended about 10 days ago and
soon after I noticed a sort of
paper-cut looking thing on my vagina, on
the inside of one of the lips
( on labia majora). I thought it had to
have been from contact with my underwear (
irritation), or just from scratching or
something. It did go away and heal,
however I noticed a few days ago that
another one appeared. This one is above
the clitoris at the way top. It seemed
red and burned a little but then it
started to get kind of flaky. At this
point, it doesn't burn but it is annoying
when i'm taking a shower and I wash myself
down there.
I am not sexually active...I've only had
sex once and that was about a year and a
half ago. I haven't had any stds in the
past....So it's really doubtful that
something would show up after a year and a
half.
I read up on this and it's probably
vaginal fissures and maybe its caused by
hormones, stress, diet...
Actually, it happened right after my
period. And about a month and a half ago
I had my appendix removed and was put on
antibiotics. But that was a while ago....
So can this still affect it?
If you know anything about this
condition, what you have done to keep it
under control, what the causes
are...Anything would help.

Me Too Posted: 10-03-05 13:29pm
:( I am having the same problem. I am
experiencing these vaginal fissures that
look like paper cuts. I too have just
finished taking antibiotics for a sinus
infection. Do you think that maybe the
antibiotics have something to do with it?
The only difference with me is that I am
suffering from anal fissures right now
too, as a result of a poor sexual
intercourse choice I made last week.
Does anyone have any idea what is wrong?

What It Sounds Like Posted: 10-06-05 15:56pm
It sounds like your mentrual cycle and or
antibiotics causes you to have a yeast
infection. Which means you may be
scratching yourself,,,, ladies please
remember your not supposed to be using
soap inside your vagina to clean.

I haven't gotten anymore fissures since
the last one ( which was a few weeks ago).
I think it was probably caused by the
antibiotics...
I just got a paptest and talked to the
gyno. About it and she mentioned that I
probably got a bit of a yeast infection
that wasn't enough to cause more severe
symptoms.

Here's What I've Found... Posted: 03-18-06 20:21pm
Hi everyone,
i've been looking into this issue and it
seems that it may be due to yeast
infections. Often these infections do not
have very noticeable symptoms, so do not
be too quick to decide you don't have one.
At this website http://www.Pdrhealth.Com/content/women
_health/chapters/fgwh04.Shtml
i found the following information:
classic symptoms of yeast infections
include vulvar itching, redness, and
irritation. If your urinary opening is
inflamed, you may have to urinate somewhat
more frequently than usual, and urination
may be uncomfortable. If your infection
is severe, your vulva may swell and fine
breaks, called fissures, may appear. Your
vaginal discharge will become thicker,
whiter, and curd-like (similar to cottage
cheese in texture and appearance).
Inflammation of the vulva and vagina,
combined with the dryness of your
discharge, makes intercourse painful.
I've found the sweet almond oil is a
wonderful method of increasing elasticity
and make tearing less likely. There is
also a natural antibacterial oil called
ozonol. If inserted into the vagina it
can cure yeast infections.
I hope at least some of this helps.
Cheers.

I used one of the monistat one day packs
and it cleared the same symptoms up in a
week for me. Its suggested you go to your
doctor if it's your first diagnosed yeast
infection.

Doctor's Answer Posted: 10-22-06 14:23pm
I went to the doctor for my vaginal
fissures that would not go away and she
said it is due to yeast. She prescibed
me the canesten cream to apply to them.
I guess this means its just an external
yeast infection without other symptoms.
You can by canestan cream at the drug
store now- it's with the canestan yeast
infection products. You can also get it
over-the-counter, or even get a
presciption and see if your health plan
will cover it. Mine did and I only paid
$2 for it.

Anyone Else Who Experiences This Have a Copper Iud? Posted: 10-09-07 13:03pm
I experience the same thing EVERY month,
the week before my period starts. I start
out feeling extremely dry, and the next
day, I have fissures. Then, I experience
extreme itching and pain for the next week
until my period starts. Then, when my
period is gone, so are all the symptoms.
I don't have the classic yeast infection
symptoms, no discharge, and no yeasty
smell. I do, however, have a 10 year
copper iud. I have gone to the doctor,
and he has run numerous tests, month after
month, only to tell me it's yeast. I
don't think it is. I don't think it's
normal to get a yeast infection EVERY
month at the same time. Here's what I
think. I think that maybe the copper IUD
is releasing something into my uterus, and
when the lining starts to shed every
month, my vagina is irritated by it. I
never experienced this before getting the
IUD, so that's the only thing I can think
of. Anyone else have an IUD here?
Thanks!

Thanks for your info!
However, don't treat a yeast infection
with an antibacterial, it could make it
worse. Yeast infections are treated with
anti-fungals. If you use antibacterial
products on your genitals, it will likely
increase your risk for yeast infections.
of course I have no idea what this ozonol
stuff really is, maybe it is an
anti-fungal and will treat the yeast
infection. But I wouldn't put anything in
my vagina that wasn't fda approved lol,
I'm a little protective.

Im Glad Im Not the Only One..... Posted: 11-10-07 12:21pm
i have been having thte symptoms of a
yeast infection for about 2 months. i have
been prescribed medication after
medication. and nothing has worked. ive
went to the doctor many times and the
yeast test comes back positive every time.
so about a week ago a noticed that i had
this paper cut in the inside of my labia.
its painful and feels just like a paper
cut. so i went back to my doctor because
my symptoms havent gotted better. this
time she said that it could be herpes!!!
she took a swab of the cut and i had my
blood drawn. what is weird about this is i
have been with the same person for almost
2 years and never had ANY of the symptoms
of herpes. and everything i have read
about herpes has lead me to believe herpes
is blisters not cuts. im still waiting the
results....so if there is anyone out there
that has had this happen to them....please
let me know! im very frightened!

That's true, herpes is usually blisters.
But you can have it and not ever get
blisters, so you wouldn't even know you
had it unless you got tested.
If you keep getting recurring yeast
infections, there could be a cause
(something you're doing that makes them
come back) check out the web md page.

Please Help Posted: 11-27-07 22:50pm
I need help... I went to my GYN two weeks
ago and I explained to her all my symptons
that all you girls have spoken about
above... I get the paper cut around my
vagina lips, very painfull dry skin down
there, ITCHY, discharge that seems to as a
yeart infection, PAINful intercourse and
afer intercourse my vagina feels very
swallon and tender.... anyways.. my GYN
takes a look and she tells me it looks
like Herpes (mind you I had no blisters or
anything that looked like herpes) so she
prescrived me cyclover and for ten days I
took it... NOTHING seem to get better.. I
went today and the test for herpes came
back negative!! She told me it might be a
yeast infection and to just be sure she
was going to run a chlamydea and gonorrea
test (I told her I was married and no way
it can be an STD) she also told me to put
KY jelly on my vagina for the dryness... I
dont think it's the yeast infection
because I have had yeast infections in the
past and the symptons continue.. I just
don't know what to do anymore.. this is
ruining my sex life (I'm married) I dont
know what my next step should be.. PLEASE
HELP

Did Some Research On What I Have. Hope It Helps Posted: 01-03-08 22:28pm
ok well for the last few weeks, i've been
getting yeast infections very often. i had
a lot of discharge, itching, and my skin
even started to get those "papercuts".
just today i noticed that my skin down
there had started turning white. my doctor
told me that this could be a result of a
prolonged and sometimes hereditary yeast
infection. the whiteness of my skin is a
result of excessive scratching; this is
called lichenification. lichenification is
prolonged rubbing/scratching of the skin
which causes the skin to become overgrown,
which results in the skin becoming thick
and the exaggeration of normal skin
markings, giving the skin a leathery
bark-like appearance. my doctor also said
that this could be herpes (stage 1) which
is a result of my fiance' performing oral
sex on me while he had a cold sore (which
is herpes stage one, if you didnt already
know). my doc did a culture test for both
problems; meanwhile she gave me an
ointment called corbetasol (for the
lichenification), which is a strong
steroid cream (you should not have sex
while using this cream. since it contains
very strong steroids, it can cause a
lesion/ hole in your partner's member). i
did a lot of research on this so that i
know exactly what i am dealing with. i
hope this helps!!

I Found Relief Posted: 01-09-08 21:44pm
I found relief by using Sweet Almond
Oil... you can order it on the internet,
though I'm sure it is available in stores
somewhere as well. For me, I noticed that
the cuts and itching would come in the
winter times. I read somewhere that this
oil might help, and it has provided me
with a ton of relief. The oil is all
natural, no scent, and is cheap! Good
luck ladies!

Ok girls.. so after several visit to my
GYN and all the exams you can think of ..
I still have no cure for this... My GYN
continues to tell me it's a yeast
infection and with every visit gives me
something for yeast infection and
NOTHING.. I have an appointment with one
of the specialist there.. they are going
to put some magnifieing machine or
something like that too see if they can
detect bacteria or infection.. If they
don't have an answer I am just going to
have to look for yet my third GYN dr.
Wish me Luck
