I m 25 years old and having a problem with my heart pounding hard. But my heart rate is good about 70-90. The problem exist only when I went to sleep. My heart pound very strong and make me difficult to sleep. Even if I get a sleep, I will wake up tired and weak. The strange thing is that my heart will pound moderate some time in the evening.. But pound harder in the night... It disturb my sleep alot. .. Some times in the night , I can feel my left hand feel pain instantly .. And I always went to the toilet for urination about 3 times a midnight.. I could only get a 5-7 hours sleep a day..

Before all these happens, I could have a sleep for 8 - 9 hours and never went to the toilet in the midnight..

I went for ekg , thyroid test, blood , body check up .. But all the test came out good result.. Hence all the doctor that I see tell me that I have anxiety disorder.. But I do not have any stress in work or problem in life. My surrounding is very good..

I took medication for alprazolam , palpitation medicine , fever, lorazapem .. But it help me in just that week of medication.. After that, the problem repeat again... I seen about 12 doctors already but to no success for recovery...

Please do help me.. It been 3 months already.. I feel terrible .. :(

Chualinkiat-

i don't know if they have this in malaysia, but we have event recorders here in the us that can correlate your heart rhythm to your symptoms.... It's about the size of a pacer, has two leads that connects to your chest and your wear most of the time (in your case when sleeping). When you have your symptoms, you can push a button and the ekg at that time (and a minute before) is stored in the devices memory. It can then be transmitted via phone to a recording center that prints out your heart rhythm strip that correlates to your symptoms.

It might help your docs understand what they are treating, just in case this is an intermittent heart rhythm problem.

Best of luck-

I'm sorry you are feeling bad. I felt like that for a long time (over a month). After countless tests, the heart specialist found out that I had pericarditis. All the other doctors said I was having panic attacks. But the "good" dr gave me some anti inflammatories and other meds. Then I was back to normal. Good luck. I'll be thinking of you.

You are not alone. I too have this problem. Although I do have heart rhythm problems at times this is a separate issue I am told. I go to bed every night knowing that it will be at least 2-3 hrs before I maybe can get to sleep because of my heart pounding. The pounding is so hard that no matter how tired I am I cannot get to sleep. I have had many tests done and worn monitors that do not show anything happening during this time so my doctors are not sure yet. In the meantime I am left wondering how can I deal with this. My drs. Say that they have not really come across this and don't really know what to look for and I have not found anyone with this problem. I know it is not anxiety or stress. This pounding does also come through during the day now for me at times. I have had this going on for a year and a half and it has only gotten worse. I hope you can get more testing done and do find the cause of your pounding heart and that you don't have to just deal with it. Good luck.

of Interest to All With Strange Heart Symptoms, Esp. Women
Just a suggestion, I had many of the same symptoms you all did, especially with the problems sleeping, please see my topic on prinzmetal variant angina/vasospasm up from your post. The problem I am working against right now is where so many walk out of a doctors being told it is nothing but stress, especially if they are women, sorry to tell you this (20 year old) it gets worse as you get around menopause, everything is blamed on that and you do feel like going to the nut house. Take heart though, it is women like me who suffered for years before I was diagnosed with prinzmetal and vasospasms after being on every different kind of antidepressant, stomach medicine, fibromialgia, ulcer, gerd, you name it. Take a stand ladies, things are going to be a changin' but it won't happen if you do not take a stand for your own health. I diagnosed myself before my cardiologist did and demanded the test that found the disease. I was sent home from the hospital 3 times and almost died by their decision, I thought I was to sick to fight this but it was not my time, I was to sick to do anything but sit and look up information on the internet, I hurt to bad when I laid down and almost all my problems were on my left side.

I am asking for information from anyone diagnosed with prinzmetal so do write me at my e-mail address if any of you discover you have this.

Take care dear hearts, I wish you well

I understand what you just wrote. I,too, would turn over in my sleep to be waken by my heart pounding very hard. I had a medical crisis three months ago and was so scared at night. I then changed my diet-cut out caffeine and tried yoga-sometimes it still happens but I realized I had control. I am positive I had an anxiety attack. Death is so scarey and we fear it-you will be surprised how our body handles stress-if it still causes you problems try another doctor. Just breathe and relax-i did and feel so much better

I had the same problem. I CURED it by doing two things:

1. A high protein meal with vegetables and NO BREAD, sugar or other starch.
2. I took two, B-100mg vitamins by Twinlab after dinner.

Amazing - in less than one week - no more heart pounding!
