I m 25 years old and having a problem with my heart pounding hard. But my heart rate is good about 70-90. The problem exist only when I went to sleep. My heart pound very strong and make me difficult to sleep. Even if I get a sleep, I will wake up tired and weak. The strange thing is that my heart will pound moderate some time in the evening.. But pound harder in the night... It disturb my sleep alot. .. Some times in the night , I can feel my left hand feel pain instantly .. And I always went to the toilet for urination about 3 times a midnight.. I could only get a 5-7 hours sleep a day..

Before all these happens, I could have a sleep for 8 - 9 hours and never went to the toilet in the midnight..

I went for ekg , thyroid test, blood , body check up .. But all the test came out good result.. Hence all the doctor that I see tell me that I have anxiety disorder.. But I do not have any stress in work or problem in life. My surrounding is very good..

I took medication for alprazolam , palpitation medicine , fever, lorazapem .. But it help me in just that week of medication.. After that, the problem repeat again... I seen about 12 doctors already but to no success for recovery...

Please do help me.. It been 3 months already.. I feel terrible .. :(

Chualinkiat-

i don't know if they have this in malaysia, but we have event recorders here in the us that can correlate your heart rhythm to your symptoms.... It's about the size of a pacer, has two leads that connects to your chest and your wear most of the time (in your case when sleeping). When you have your symptoms, you can push a button and the ekg at that time (and a minute before) is stored in the devices memory. It can then be transmitted via phone to a recording center that prints out your heart rhythm strip that correlates to your symptoms.

It might help your docs understand what they are treating, just in case this is an intermittent heart rhythm problem.

Best of luck-

I'm sorry you are feeling bad. I felt like that for a long time (over a month). After countless tests, the heart specialist found out that I had pericarditis. All the other doctors said I was having panic attacks. But the "good" dr gave me some anti inflammatories and other meds. Then I was back to normal. Good luck. I'll be thinking of you.

You are not alone. I too have this problem. Although I do have heart rhythm problems at times this is a separate issue I am told. I go to bed every night knowing that it will be at least 2-3 hrs before I maybe can get to sleep because of my heart pounding. The pounding is so hard that no matter how tired I am I cannot get to sleep. I have had many tests done and worn monitors that do not show anything happening during this time so my doctors are not sure yet. In the meantime I am left wondering how can I deal with this. My drs. Say that they have not really come across this and don't really know what to look for and I have not found anyone with this problem. I know it is not anxiety or stress. This pounding does also come through during the day now for me at times. I have had this going on for a year and a half and it has only gotten worse. I hope you can get more testing done and do find the cause of your pounding heart and that you don't have to just deal with it. Good luck.

of Interest to All With Strange Heart Symptoms, Esp. Women
Just a suggestion, I had many of the same symptoms you all did, especially with the problems sleeping, please see my topic on prinzmetal variant angina/vasospasm up from your post. The problem I am working against right now is where so many walk out of a doctors being told it is nothing but stress, especially if they are women, sorry to tell you this (20 year old) it gets worse as you get around menopause, everything is blamed on that and you do feel like going to the nut house. Take heart though, it is women like me who suffered for years before I was diagnosed with prinzmetal and vasospasms after being on every different kind of antidepressant, stomach medicine, fibromialgia, ulcer, gerd, you name it. Take a stand ladies, things are going to be a changin' but it won't happen if you do not take a stand for your own health. I diagnosed myself before my cardiologist did and demanded the test that found the disease. I was sent home from the hospital 3 times and almost died by their decision, I thought I was to sick to fight this but it was not my time, I was to sick to do anything but sit and look up information on the internet, I hurt to bad when I laid down and almost all my problems were on my left side.

I am asking for information from anyone diagnosed with prinzmetal so do write me at my e-mail address if any of you discover you have this.

Take care dear hearts, I wish you well

I understand what you just wrote. I,too, would turn over in my sleep to be waken by my heart pounding very hard. I had a medical crisis three months ago and was so scared at night. I then changed my diet-cut out caffeine and tried yoga-sometimes it still happens but I realized I had control. I am positive I had an anxiety attack. Death is so scarey and we fear it-you will be surprised how our body handles stress-if it still causes you problems try another doctor. Just breathe and relax-i did and feel so much better

Ask and ye shall recieve...
I too agree with Jian. prayer is and always will be the best cure to put your mind at ease and comfort you, I feel your pain and I struggle with these symptoms as well daily, the fright of my mind wandering was keeping me up at night and felt like I was alone and going insane slowly. All I can say is turning to the bible and studying it with others has answered many prayers and made me content, in the bible they ask for us to unload our burdens onto Jesus and put our trust into him. I'm not a super religious guy but I'm smart enough to know that we have a creator in this world, were not alone and you will find that a relationship with God will help in more way than I can even begin to mention.

It has helped me, but I will prayer for all of you as I go for a beautiful long board this evening.

peace to you.

I had the same problem. I CURED it by doing two things:

1. A high protein meal with vegetables and NO BREAD, sugar or other starch.
2. I took two, B-100mg vitamins by Twinlab after dinner.

Amazing - in less than one week - no more heart pounding!

Pounding heart, etc.
Thank you to all of the people who took the time to reply this person's post. Ack, it's 3:26 a.m. Good to know I'm not alone. Not that it makes me happy that other people are dealing with this issue also. Rather, good to know I'm not crazy and there really is something wrong with the medical community. Doctors and their anti-depressants! Like it's some kind of cure all or something. I refuse to take anti-depressants. No thank you. These people are really out of touch. I'm not depressed, though I do experience anxiety as a result of the physical symptoms I sometimes experience. I did eat spicy food last night, and I have been going to bar a little too frequently lately and over drinking... these more than likely are the culprit. Check your lifestyle and stay off the anti-depressants!

Night time heart palpations/anxiety attacks/panic attacks
I am so glad to not be the only one with a heart pounding/anxiety problem at night. It is now 2:47am and I can't go to sleep because I thought I was going to die from the heart palpation I just had. I have 4 kids and I never get enough sleep anymore. I rarely drink (although tonight I did have a half a beer!), but I could probably stand to exercise more. Today I did have BBQ Pork so a bit on the spicy side. This helps a lot. I will change my diet, start exercising, and pray that I can return to a normal sleep cycle to increase my energy levels. Thank you all, you've made me feel so much better. (And stopped my panic attack that was brought on by the heart palpations) By the way, I too have had some really scary health crisises within the past 2.5 years. I almost died from blood clots in both of my lungs WHILE pregnant with my 3rd child. This diagnosis required testing to find out why I had clots, which told me I have a genetic disorder called Factor V Lieden where I am at increased risk for blood clots. Then, I have had some monsterous migraines, one of which landed me in the ER due to blurred vision, chest pain, and dizziness, all from a stupid migraine. That night they decided to give me an IV to rid me of the migraine, where the nurse did not properly keep the IV equipment starille and gave me cellulitis in my arm. I was in the hospital a week, then sent home with a PICC line to administer IV antibiotics at home. A few days in while flushing the line my heart was racing, I felt weak, went pail, everything was spinning and had to call 911 to go to the ER. They removed the PICC line as I had flushed a small clot off the end of the PICC line which caused the symptoms above. Since all this has ended, I have been ok in the sense of not having anymore catastrophic medical emergencies. However, it has left me scarred, I have anxiety attacks (panic attacks) over the most stupid things and I cannot fall asleep until 2-3AM, and I've been moody because I am so scared something is going to happen and my children won't have a mother.
Maybe with this new information about the heart palpations I will be able to change the situation and return to my normal self. I sure hope so, because I really miss not worrying about dying everyday. Thank you all again.

I am a 38 yr old female. I have most of the problems everyone is experiencing. Except mine is more when I stand up. I was told I had mvp and high blood pressure. I was put on meds. I had test ran that said otherwise. And the meds didn't work anyway. I was told to stop the meds because it was dropping my blood pressure too low. I recently had the worse episode. I felt like I was on fire and my heart was beating hard and skipping beats. I felt like I was going to vomit and throw up and pass out. The e.r. thinks I was having a bad panic attack. Now they want to do a nuclear stress test on me. It is very scary, it feels like I'm dying. And the doctors now a days just don't seem to know or care anymore like they use to. The only thing they have said so far is to just deal with it. Apparently, this is a problem.
