Hi, i'm new here and I have a very difficult situation going on right now. Well actually it's my girlfriend. She is 18 years old and lives with me and my parents in new york city. Her parents kicked her out and she has no health insurance. She is currently working and earning 8 dollars an hour. The problem is this... She can't apply for medicaid or family health plus because she is either too young (19 being the age to apply on your own) or makes too much money(she makes about 1000 a month these want you to be below poverty level.)... She can't afford a private insurance company like empire blue cross blue shield, and she's running out of options... It's like she can't get insurance no matter where she goes, who she talks to, or whatever. She's also worried due to the fact that she needs to see a liver specialist due to a possible problem she may have. I don't know what else to tell her and she feels completely stuck... We both think that her only hope is for her to turn 19 in about 2 months so she can apply for something on her own that she wouldn't have to pay for. Private insurance is just too expensive for her.... If anyone has any sort of lead or idea it would be greatly appreciated.
