I have been diagnosed as having gallstones
but because I am overweight the surgeon is
reluctant to operate to remove them.
I try my hardest to stick to a low fat
diet but if I have something remotely
comtaining fat I suffer horrendous pain.
My doctor has given me codine phosphate
and zydol to relieve the pain but they
don't seem to be working. I have found no
relief with the codine and the zydol 50mg
is totally knocking me out because their
too strong..And don't work with the pain
either.
Can someone suggest any home remedies or
tell me what effective medication I could
be taking to aid with the pain.. Im
desperate for help.
I have had an attack that actually lasted
2 1/2 days and left me totally exhausted
but usually they last about 6-8 hours and
thats bad enough.
Any encouraging advice would be great.
Many thanks

Please read my post "my gallstones are
gone"
i am overweight too and had problems with
the low fat diet. But read the nutrition
facts...There are really good low fat
foods out there you just have to search.
After a couple attacks I realized I would
rather not go through 18 hours of extreme
pain than have my alfredo...When you link
pain to fat it becomes easier and
easier...(is this cookie worth a day of my
time in agony...) no!! I actually got the
gallstones from extreme weightloss...But I
am still overweight and the meds worked
great for me.
Good luck

Dear madam,
it is indeed a difficult and painful
condition when one experiences
cholecyctitis pain. There are a number of
reasons for which the surgeons are
reluctant to operate upon cases of
cholecyctitis primarily accirding to one
school of thought we should never go in to
remove the gall bladder in an acute cases
due to chances of bleeding so we ask the
patient to come for elecetive
cholecystectomy after about six weeks of
first attack. So if its a chronic
condition, try getting a second opinion.
Meanwhile appart from low fat diet, bring
some light exercise into your daily
routine. Pain killers like brufen or
tramadol are also effective in an attack
but the ultimate option is the
cholecystectomy.
Stay happy..
Regards,
doctor

Thank you for your advise given, it has
been noted.
Since my desperate plea for help here I
have been back to see my doctor and
expressed my problem to him some more.
He gave me new tablets to try... One lot
on my request..And fingers crossed..They
seem to be doing the trick.
I am at the moment taking codine phosphate
and buscopan which is an anti spasm
tablet. I have had a couple of mild
attacks due to possibly having something
containing cheese... But I have managed
to keep the pain to a minimal.
Im due to go to hospital a week monday to
discuss what I would like to happen next..
Not sure what I want to do now.
Will let u know how I get on
