Have Polycystic Ovaries, Not Ovulating And Taking Clomid Posted: 09-17-05 16:43pm
Hi,
i have been trying for a baby for about 2
yrs now. I got married four years ago.
About 5-6 months later I found out I was
pregnant. But then unfortunately I had a
miscarriage, when I was exactly 12 weeks.
It was a very very painful time because I
was so happy to be pregnant. I then went
on the pill for about a year. I came off
the pill as me and my husband decided we
should try again for a baby. We have been
trying for about 2 yrs now, and as time
passes by, its getting more and more
harder.
After about one year of trying, I decided
to get myself checked out. They done many
tests, bloodtests, scans, etc and the
conclusion was that I have polycystic
ovaries syndrome. My periods have always
been irregular, and having pcos, is
stopping me from ovulating – which
doesn’t help.
I have been on clomid now for a few months
but every month the results are negative,
which means I am not ovulating. The
hospital have increased my dose from 50mg
to 150mg. Therefore I am taking 3
tablets. Has anyone got any idea what the
next steps would be. I am really scared
as I really don’t want it to get to a
stage where I have to go for ivf. Can
anyone help or has anyone been going
through a similar situation. Has anyone
got any tips that think would help me. I
really want my little baby in my arms, its
all im now waiting for. Pls can anyone
help me as this is stressing me out.

I dont have pcos, but I dont ovulate
either non existant periods- my daughter
was concieved on 100mg of clomid 3yrs ago.
We have been ttc#2 for 2 yrs now, clomid
was not working on its own so my dr sent
me to have ovarian drilling on my ovaries
where each of my ovaries were pierced
several times to help release the eggs.3
weeks after my period came on its own..
Now its just a waiting game for me to see
af is going to be a 'regualr visiter'.
Maybe you could talk to your dr about
ovarian drilling as it is becoming quiet
common in ppl with pcos. Goodluck &
loads of babydust to you.

Clomid isn't generally helpful with pcos.
I really would advise seeing a specialist
for this. A reproductive
endocrinologist. There are much better
medications to help you than clomid.
Metformin is one of them.
My advice to you is to see the specialist
rather than an ob/gyn. They know exactly
how to treat patients with pcos
best wishes to you!

Hiya,
i have just read your reply to my message
and thought to let you know that clomid
hasn’t been to bad. I am now ovulating
on a dose of 150mg. Im quite happy with
the advise that my ob/gyn gave me. I
don’t know whether you have has a bad
experience with them, but here they are
not too bad. But thanks for your hel;p
though. Lets just hope we all get what we
want to. Thanks

I wish you all the best with it! Clomid
and pcos usually don't work well
together...So it's great that you are
ovulating on it!

Very Successful Pcos And Clomid Posted: 11-02-05 12:16pm
Hi, just wanted to add a bit of
encouragement. I have pcos and took
clomid and was very successful in
ovulating and even conceiving on the
second go around. Timing and detail is
very important when utilizing clomid.
Counting days to possible fertility
opportunity, making love every other day,
etc.
I am a mother to a 2 year old and was so
pleased with my use of clomid (self
educating is very important as well!).
Sincerely,
samantha

How long were you on clomid before you got
pregnant. I have been on it for two
cycles. I've ovulated both times, but
have not gotten pregnant yet. I am
getting so desperate. To make things
worse...I don't know how to explain it but
in the last few months ones in a while I
try to have sex with my husband but for
some reason his thing doesn't get exited.
Sometimes we wait and just talk about
something else and then I start messing
around with him and finally it works.
Does anybody know what the problem might
be. He is only 29 yrs old. This is
making me feel worse. Can't get pregnant
and now this. He says he can't
understand why sometimes it doesn't work
but he says it is not me. He thinks he
is under stress. Please help. I don't
think I can live like this. Sometimes I
want to go away very far. We use to be
so happy before we were trying to get
pregnant but now my hormones are going
crazy that I am not happy anymore. I
just need some advise. I know what is
wrong with me, but can't figure out what
is wrong with him.
Please help!

maybe he feels under pressure too, and
that would make it harder for him to be
into it, or maintain his erection, and
possibly even prevent him from having
erection at all. Just my guess hon.
Good luck

thank you for responding back. I sure

a man lives to "fix" everything for his
woman, that is what he does, thats how he
thinks. And he cant fix this for you and
it could be making him feel very anxious
too. And a woman just wants him to
comfort her--not neccessarily fix it all
the time. Mostly just wants him to
listen, and comfort where needed. And
he's always going about trying to fix it,
cuz he "assumes" that is what we want if
we are telling him about our problems.

yes, but only slightly from what I have
gathered. Some say about 5 % twins and
even less than 1% for multiples beyond
that.

dearest mari,
i am sorry your hurting right now. I
would like to encourage you also that our
husbands are definetly affected by the
want to get pregnant without success. He
probably does feel pressure and can't
understand why his body is reacting this
way too. Be patient and encouraging as
there could be nothing worse for a man
than having erectile dysfunction (for
whatever reason!). If you can try to make
this more an adventure than work, it may
lighten the mood.
If I may say so, you are only able to show
up and try for conception, the rest is up
to god, fertility and the help of our
wonderful doctors.
I wonder if you have been diagnosed with
pcos? What interferes with ov if you
know?
Be encouraged and of good cheer, you are
not alone in this.

hello mari, try vitamin e & vitamin c
for your husband, and for you who are ttc
take vitamin e & folic acid. And live
a stress free life, don't think it
seriously. Good luck

and it didn't help. I am unto my second,
this time is 150mg. I also have pcos and

Pcos And Clomid Work For Some! Posted: 12-29-05 00:52am
I have pcos and without any fertility meds
got preggo with my son, carried him to
term. We have been trying over 2 years
for #2. Some women with pcos don't
respond to clomid. As a sufferer of pcos
of many years I have done my research.
Here are the options I think you should
consider:
(1) let him put you on metformin
(glucophage) even if you aren't insulin
resistant. This medicine at the right
dose (normally 1500mg-2000mg) can make you
ovulate. Women with pcos also have a
high rate of miscarriage. Glucophage
lowers the risk of miscarriage for pcos
women. Pcos respond v.E.R.Y well to
glucophage and clomid. I have done two
rounds of clomid, while taking only 1000mg
of glucophage. I ovulated both times.
(2) another thing very important in
conceiving when you have pcos is weight.
Extra weight on women with pcos causes
them to not ovulate. When I got preggo
with my son, I was at my "ideal" weight.
Now I can't get preggo and I believe it
has alot to do with my weight, as do all
the doctors I have spoken with. If you
are overweight a 10% body weight loss
increases your chances of conception by
almost double. So if you weigh 160
pounds, if you lost 16 lbs your body would
have a better chance of ovualting.
Good luck !

Acole, thanks. Really appreicated the
advise. I am so envious that you have a
son. I am still trying. I guessed pcos
have various degree and yours may not be
that bad. I know of another friend who
has pco and got preg. For me, I also have
a retroverted uterus, so maybe it is not
possible for me to be preggie....:(. How
often do you have to take metformin, is it
like how you would take clomid?

I take metformin (glucophage) every day.
If I don't my insulin level skyrockets.
The first time I went to the doctor, when
I knew something was wrong (i had gained
60 lbs after the birth of my son). They
checked everything. My insulin level was
almost double what it should have been.
They thought I was a diabetic. Only by
the grace of god i'm not. I caught in
just in time. I take 1500mg of metformin
everyday, not really to conceive but to
stay alive. My son is a miracle. I
myself get envious of other people with
lots of children. I think it is a part
of infertility. I want so bad to give my
little boy a brother or sister. I have
a moderate degree of pcos. I am insulin
resistant. I don't really have the male
hormone problem, but my left ovary is very
polycystic, whereas my right is somewhat
clear. I will pray for your miracle.
It can happen, don't ever lose your faith.
I believe god has put me on this path
for a reason. And when you do get
pregnant you will have more of a bond with
your child because of the struggles of
infertility.
Ashlee
