Pityriasis Rosea - Questions!
Posted: 09-15-05 23:35pm

Hello, i'm 20 years old and have been recently diagnosed with pr (pityriasis rosea). My doctor gave me a topical steroid (mometasone furoate) and some pills (methylprednisolone) to take to relieve the itching and hasten the recovery time.

-i have the herald patch on my right foot. Is this abnormal??
-how long will this disease persist? (i ask this because I am a tennis player, which means I cannot quit my team.)
-how do you deal with pr when you're around your co-workers, especially if you're a college student just returning to school?-
-does exposure to sunlight (say 15 minutes a day) really get rid of pr?
-how do you bathe if you're in college dormitory showers?

So far, i've only seen a few bumps (about the size of a bean) on my abdomen, back, chest and upper thighs. I try to keep my room as cool as possible so that I won't sweat in my sleep by applying a/c or leaving my window open. Will it continue to worsen to the point it covers my entire body? What is the recovery time?

I was diagnosed yesterday with pityriasis rosea. The doctor to one look and said she knew exactly what it was. The funny thing is that doctors don't know the cause of this disease, but the good thing is that it runs it's course. It can take anywhere between 1 to 4 months to completely go away. Just avoid hot showers and use a soap for skin rashes. This will help the itching and avoid it from flaring up.
