How to cure some pilonidal cysts
If your pilonidal cyst around your buttox region is caused as a result of trauma, the cause could be in-grown hair activity. An ingrown hair in that region acts especially interesting and can cause a severe infection. The infection causes the area to swell and is so painful you eventually must go to a doctor to get it lanced.

I've had my pilonidal cyst lanced repeatedly until I decided to get laser hair removal treatment. My doctor initially balked at the idea and said his surgery is the best remedy. But the idea of not being able to move for a couple weeks and a very long and painful recovery didn't appeal to me.

My first laser hair removal procedure was done when I could feel activity start to build up again after my latest lancing. I lasered the entire buttox region especially the crack area. My doctor said some of these ingrown hairs could begin far from the cyst area. Hairs can grow quite far and are resilient. Needless to say, immediately after the procedure I felt much better and could feel the activity subside. Within 48 hours the swelling on the cyst had subsided completely and the area was normal again. It really is amazing.

I have done over a dozen laser hair treatments on the area over the last 4 years. I get them done on average every 3 months or so but sometimes it may be less and sometimes as much as 6-9 months can pass. It really just depends on the activity. The hair by now supposedly is supposed to be gone permanently, but it's not. I don't think it ever will, but I am perfectly happy getting the procedure done often. It is walking distance from my office, no preparation is needed (although you can numb the area prior), it takes approximately 30 min and I am back at work within the hour. You can also find really good deals on packages. I recently bought 6 for $600. I've used 3 in the last 14 months.

Anyways, I hope people try this because hair removal is not a widely recommended practice by doctors.

Lumps
I've got two lumps as described by everyone else, both really close together and inside the butt crevasse, above the anus but below the spinal chord.

Except mine don't bleed or put out pus. They just hurt when I sit on them, which is all the time because I sit weird as hell.

I've had these for something like a year and a half now, I'm 17 and round 200 pounds. I do have sort of eraser shavings like someone else said, but I've always just put that down to my clothes as well.

If they aint popping, and don't hurt unless I sit directly on them, should I even worry about these things?

Come to think of it, I have experienced a really sharp, bad odor at random intervals, sometimes even over a few days, and it seems to have nothing to do with where I am or whether I'd showered that day. I don't remember pus but I do sweat a lot, so it could all get lost in there...

This is just great. sunny

Thank you everyone for sharing!
Whew... I am 37 now but when I was in high school, I had a bump above my tailbone that HURT. Being embarrassed by the location, I never told anyone. It oozed, as you all have described. One day, I couldn't stand the pain and really wanted to see it better. I bent down in front of a full length mirror to look - I saw an open wound that was seeping so I reached around to feel it better. When I pulled the skin around it, it burst. A horrid liquid full of runny puss, blood, and a clear substance splattered on the mirror. The mess was HUGE and smelled so bad. Mine never came back (or hasn't yet) but it left a crater in my buttcrack that has a hole in the very middle of it. It is so embarrassing and even when my partners have asked, I haven't told anyone until now. I am really relieved to know what it was now because it has given me nightmares all my life.

I have the same thing, so I get it. First, get one of those donut things to sit on, to ease the pain. My turned out to a staph infection that hurt so bad I went to the ER and got Clindamyicin. They tried to drain it but got nothing! Also, my homeopathic dr said to take Thymex 4 caps 3 times a day at meals. ( the antibiotics didn't totally cure it) so I went the natural way. Also, at bedtime after you shower and dry yourself really well, use Manuka Honey on it) u get it at the health food store. I heard Tea Tree Oil is good for it too. Take care, God Bless, & let me know how u r doing, k?

Lump in butt crack area
Thanks everyone for sharing. It is good to know that many people have the same problem and it is nothing to be embarrassed about. My husband has this problem. As many of you describe, first it hurts, then the lump gets bigger and eventually bursts. He has learned to live with it and I try to help as much as I can. Sometimes he gets this again within a year and sometimes 5 or 10 years can go by until he has this problem again.

So, whenever he starts having this pain, he has to use warm compresses (a washcloth soaked in hot water or even camomile tea) and hold it to the area. Do this several times a day if you can, each time at least 15 minutes. Or take a hot bath. That way, the skin softens and helps it burst and all the liquid can come out. That is the goal. It has to come out and then the skin can heal quickly. And because it can take several days until it is ready to burst, you can purchase a rubber inflatable ring that makes sitting less painful.

Also, if you decide that you want to lance it yourself, make sure the needle is sterile. Go to the pharmacy and buy "sterile Lancets". These are actually being sold for people who are diabetic and need to prick their fingers for the bloodsugar test (usually 200 pieces in each box for about $10). But I find these lancets can be very useful if you need to rupture any big pimple type problems. Ask a good friend or relative to have a look at the "area" and see if it is ready: should look like a big pimple and a very thin membrane covering the yellowish spot. Do not put the needle part in too deep. It should only be used on the very surface to help it burst. As soon as it is open, wrap kleenex around you fingers to make sure you do not touch the area with dirty hands. You pull the skin apart a little to make sure liquid comes out, but don't force it too much. Continue to apply more warm compresses if nothing happens. It might take a few days until it is fully drained and can start healing. But once it is out you'll feel so much better.

And if you are concerned about your partner and don't want him or her to know about this, it might not be the right parnter for you. As I said I am the one helping my husband when he has this problem. I am the one telling him not to be embarrassed and he'll let me lance it to make it burst. And I am the one sitting there with a box of kleenex next to me and helping him clean the area. That's what love is all about, right???

Oh, one more piece of advice: If you are concerned about staining the clothes e.g. while you are at work etc., you could ask a female person in your houshold for a few 'always pads' - I know it sounds like a strange idea, but if you put that in your underwear in the back area, then at least you have one less thing to worry about....

Hope some of my ideas were helpful : ) Good luck and feel better soon.

you guys need to calm down. it's very common to have this. 1 out of every 5 people have it, just nobody talks about it. The common word people use for it is "anal cavity"... if you don't clean it often, it will get damaged and bleed and leak a really smelly white puss, that will make your whole rear end smell... seriously.. people smell it for miles!!... they just don't say anything to you.. it will never go away, just clean it!!! bye!!!!!

Bump on on da ButtCrack
Hey do all those that are concerned! i never had this in my life and was shocked to see this. at 1st i thought of it nothing, thought it was some bruising or something. i mean i am a klutz so i bump into things all the time. well anyways my lil bump became reddish and started hurting like hell. i had my boyfriend look at it and press on it, some clear/yellowish stuff came out. i was like omg what the hell is that! researching it on google i found out that it was a phedonial cyst (excuse me for the misspelling) i am redicously embarrassed to go and show my butt to the doctor but honestly its the best thing to do. i learned that i am in the early development so i can get antibotics for it to make it go away (which sux cuz it can reoccur) but for now i wanna try that be4 surgery if i need it or drainage. but be4 deciding to go to the doctor honestly u guys dis helped!!! i took a mint teabag and that was somewhat really hott and placed it on the bump and let chill on there for a minute and kept repeating this process. the bump definitely went down and the next day or 2 liquid came out. also takin hott bubble baths works to or puttin ur butt against the shower and let hot water beam on it. i kno sounds silly but i can actually sit normal and not feel the pain as much. i still have the bump and its 10x smaller den it was be4 and it turned into a wierd like color type light brown. mayb cuz i tried to scratch it and force to drain it myself but until i get the answers i will keep u posted up on here!!! wish u all luck remeber but something hot on it and the swellin of the bump will go down but pplease do see a doctor!!! posted oct5th2009

Bump above my tailbone
OMG!!! I thought I was the only one with this ailment and totally surprised by the number of folks that have had the same thing! Right above my tailbone I developed an itching, when I itched at it, I realized It had small bump there. At first I thought it would just go away, it did, but then returned to stay. Since then, the bump has grown bigger and more painful; it too, leaks the liquid blood-like substance from what seems to be holes below the actual bump itself. Its the weirdest thing ever. I'm glad that my "bump in buttcrack" search has turned out so helpful as I now know its a Polinidal cyst. The pain has grown to be too much, it hurts to sit. I will be putting heat on it and going to the doctor. Thank You to everyone who posted their simililar stories. I hope my post will help future searchers to relate to this most strange ailment.

Go see the doctor!
Whenever you have an open sore, you should watch it for signs of infection, and put neosporin or other antibiotic cream on it. If the sore starts to ooze, then it is showing signs of infection. The white stuff that comes out is puss from the infection. If that stuff smells, or is green, then there is absolutely an infection and you need to go to the doctor. When you have an open sore that is near the anus, you really should go to the doctor right away. Being that the sore is so close to the anus, the chances of severe infection are much more likely. E-coli is one type of bacteria that is found in the lower end of the digestive tract, and can be very serious when is gets spread to other areas. An open sore would be a great place for e-coli to be transmitted to the blood system.
If the bump is a Pilodonal cyst, then it could come and go for a while, but it will eventually need to be removed. If not removed, the pain could become severe.
Whatever the cause of the bump, the most important thing to do is to see the doctor when you have ANY KIND of open wound near the anus.

Ouch.
I''ve got this too. I had no idea what to do, and I don''t have insurance so I couldn''t make a doctors appointment. Mine started about 4/5 days ago, first it was very small, yet still had a tiny bit of pain to it, but it seemed to get bigger every day until it was about the size of a half dollar, the skin on the wound was very tight feeling, and it hurt to sit or get up or walk or anything, very very painful! This morning it popped on its own, and oozed puss and blood. My boyfriend (bless his heart) volunteered to look at it and he said that it has a head on it, but it popped right below the head, which I thought was weird. He said there is a white head, like a pimple with a little black dot in the middle of the white head. After it popped, it still hurt, but it feels like some pressure was let out. It feels a little better, but it still hurts to sit, and it hurts if I walk a certain way. I''ve been cleaning it every few hours with isopropyl alcohol (50%), it "leaks" quite a bit, but only for a few minutes at a time, then it stops for a while and does it again, the liquid mixture of blood and puss stinks to high heaven! It''s about an inch and a half from my anus. He''s been having me use wet wipes to clean it because he says it might help reduce the chance of fibers getting in the wound, because after the "leaking" subsides the liquid becomes a little sticky and tissue paper was sticking to it. As someone said in a previous post, I had the idea to wear a feminine pad so the "leakage" wouldn''t get on my clothes. I wonder, is there any way it could be staph infection? Because my nephew recently had a boil on his bum and he was in the hospital for 3 days and the doctors said it was a staph filled boil? He had his lanced, and they packed the wound and sent him home the next day. They said that it was contagious, and I babysit him often. But his was on the bum cheek and as I mentioned before mine is quite close to my anus. I''d really like to know the cause of this, and figure out how to drain it all out. I''d like to avoid a doctor visit, but most likely I will have to break down and either schedule a doctors appointment or go to the ER. I''d like to try to every thing else that I can and for an ER/doctor visit be my last option. Thank goodness for my boyfriend, that is love! (As someone also mentioned in another post.) He''s helped me every step of the way. Anyone who could give me any more tips on how to clean it, drain it, and prevent further infection will be much appreciated. Thanks.

My husband gets these too. He only goes to the Dr when he cannot stand the pain any longer. |He has been told he needs to have it surgically removed, but he resists..... oh well what can you do.

The dr told him that the since the cyst is encapsulated (not sure of the spelling) the infestion stays inside the cyst, when the cyst is lanced, it gets a chance to drain and heal. The last time he had it lanced they had to lance two spots (one long cut, about 1/2 inch) because the cyst had two chambers. This was the first time that I was there when the cyst was lanced and I was amazed at the amount of pus and fluid that came out of it. My head was stuffy at the time so I did not notice the odor (hubby said it was not as bad as the last time). About three weeks after this, it started to bother him again, and he asked me to try and squeeze it. It must have been weakened from the last lancing because the thing burst and hit me in the face, how I did not throw up on him I do not know. That is love! I will not squeeze it again without a welding mask on.

According to my husband as soon as it pops or it is lanced, there is immediate relief from the pain (not complete relief, but it feels much better).

If you are running a fever along with this, I would get to the dr right away because that is a symptom of a infection that is definitely in your system. The dr explained that my hubby did not have a fever because the infection was encapsulated in the cyst.

These are not cause by bad personal hygene, you are born with them. Whether they become infected or not is probably just luck. My husband is one of the cleanest people I know and he suffers with them. His brother has also got them. My older sister has had one also.

Best of luck to those of you with them. Try not to be embarrassed, as it is nothing that you caused your self. See a dr if you can. The pad in the back of the underwear is a great way to avoid messing up your clothes

Sore on my rear, turns out to be pheochromocytoma
Well, I had the same thing happen to me, in the same exact spot and same discription. However, mine changed from what seemed like an ingrown hair to something more like a cyst. After a short amount of time it became more hard and reminded me of a wart. I thought maybe it was trying to dry up. When I went to a dermatologist who performed a surgical biopsy and found that it is cancer. I was diagnosed with Pheochromocytoma or also known as chromaffin tumor. I go in two weeks to have surgery trying to get it in one shot.
