Hi, i'm new here and hoping that I can have some advice.

I am almost 20 years old and have a front baby tooth that just won't come out. I don't know if it's an extra tooth but the hygienist told me that I am missing tooth 24 and 25. The tooth is right in the middle of my first two upper front tooth. The two next tooth next to the baby ones are squeezing it to come together. The baby is being pushed out and coming forward just so that the two beside of it can clash. Right now the baby teeth is hurting because of the ones besides of it.

I went to the my dentistry a couple of weeks ago, but sadly my dentist doesn't work there anymore so I was seen by the hygienist. After waiting 2 hours I saw him for about 5 minutes. He counted each tooth and told me everything is find, except that I am missing 24 and 25. He said that I should pull out my wisdom's (the two last ones in the upper back are now growing) and to see the orthodontist so that something can be arranged. So I was sent to the other side of the building to make an appointment. He didn't really look at the x rays that I had taken that day. I also looked at the x rays myself and I didn't see other tooth in the bottoms of the ones that I already have.

I don't want braces, I just want to baby tooth out and I don't understand why he didn't refer me to a dentist to have it extracted. I don't really have money (since I basically support myself) to get braces.

What should I do? I don't want to waste my time with that dentistry if they are going to send me around the place.

Should I make an appointment with the oral surgeon or go back to the general dentist and see another hygienist or whatnot?

And also the baby tooth is a little pushed up and I can see piece of the root, the color is different that the actually tooth, so I am assuming that it's the root, the piece below the gum-line. This is a second reason why I am rooting on having it extracted besides the reason of having it pulled out and the two besides of it will come together on its own - since it's doing that as of this moment.

Thanks everyone!

Forget the dental hygienist and go and see another general dentist, preferably in the older age group. 50

when you go do so with a clear agenda of what you want done. If the tooth is causing discomfort then you need to get the issue addressed.

The only reason for going to an oral surgeon would be if you and the general dentist agree that your wisdom teeth need to be extracted.

If your wisdom teeth are in good condition and display no sign of potential extraction problems (fish hook roots etc) then a general dentist can remove them. Often you will be referred to an oral surgeon for reasons associated with patient comfort or if a problem is anticipated when extracting the wisdom teeth.

My four wisdom teeth are in the pocess of growing, I don't know why he would want me to extract them, maybe to make space because two of my front teeth were missing? That's why he sent me to the orthodontist to consult.

The hygienist seemed like if he was in his 60s or so. I might consider changing dentistry, but the only concern is that they have my records.

I need to make an appointment fast because I noticed last night that the space that the baby tooth has gotten smaller. The baby tooth is very small - only a few millimeters tall and it seems like a gap because the other two teeth beside it is taller. I am not in pain or anything, but just pure discomfort.

Your 20 and still haven't lost all of your baby teeth yet! Myabe some little thing was messed up w/your dna and its something genetic! At least there is always cosmetic dental stuff these days to fix it! I didn't lose my last baby tooth till I was in 10th grade I think I was 16 so I have homecoming pics with a missing tooth!!

I think you should go find another dentist. The hygenist could have known what he was talking about, but then again he isnt the one who went to med school. Maybe if you actually talked to tthe dentist, you would of felt better about the answer!
