You go for it!! If you were strong enough to go through a g.B. You are strong enough to do this. I recently had an acl replacement, 13 years after it tore. In that time I have put on weight. Found out I have a few other health issues to deal with. I realized that no one else is going to take of my health other than me! I have 3 young kids and when I realized I couldnt help my 4 year old learn to ride a bike. It was time to take care of me!!! You take care of you! What you have done is something to be proud of, who cares if we need a little help from a Dr. To do it. By the way why do they want to do this?? Arthritis? Im hoping you have had a second and even maybe a third opinion. They have told you the longevity of a replacement? Please reply, I will pray for you and wisdom for your Dr.

Its been something that has been coming for a long time.I also have a real bad deformity called valgus(sp?) knees or severe knock knees. With these tkr's my knees will be straight instead of bowing out and 2 inches taller.I look at this way....It cant be any worse than what it is right now.Thank you for the kind words. Its nice to know people who dont know each other can be in your corner as well...Peace!!!

Wow!!! It sure sounds like that it going to be a pretty nasty surgery. How do they fix something like that? The knee replacment alone will make them straight? I saw my Dr. Today and he said I was doing great. @ 4 weeks post op im bending at 112 degrees. The bad news was because they took out so much cartilege it was down to the bone. He said they are making great progress in a new way to deal with the bad arthritis. He says if I can deal with some of the pain for about 5-6 years they may have a new way to grow cartilege on a mesh form and then go in and suture it to the bad spots. No pkr!!!!! Until then I put up with the little twinges now and then. When do you go in for your surgery? I sure hope for your sake it is not an out patient.

ya know you are young, and have lots of life left. By the sounds of it the first part was a bit on the... Well... Not so much fun. By the way, ill hang out in your corner if ya like. We all can use encouregment, and a prayer or two. Keep us up to date on how you are doing

You have a great outlook! I think that is half the battle. Attitude is every thing. The dropped foot... Ask your doc how often he has had dropped foot. I think my doc was really getting tired of me and my questions. I wanted to be as informed as I could possibly be. Any thing is possible. I was afraid I wouldnt come out of surgery or infection. I live in a small town I asked the doc if he does surgery at the nearby town. He did. Well I ran into a guy at rehab, had his same day at hospital in my town, bad, bad infection, has a pump hooked up to him with antis!!!! Praise!!!!! I wasnt at that hospital!!! It sure would be the pits to go through all that and end up with that. Keep your spirits up. My faith really helped me with the nerves and to feel at ease. :) :) :)

Thank you both for the kind words,i hope I am as lucky as your friend sandy. I expect to have alot of work ahead of me though. If you can see what I have to work with now....You'd know why.All my life ive never had straight knees....They were always knock-kneed(if thats such a word).I would image my hips and ankles would be like whoa, what the hell is going on here??!But I will definitely keep you updated as I found a good support system here with all the nice words and encouragement...It means alot to me. Thanks.

Sandy, I see by the number of posts you have been doing this a while. Did you have knee....? I think your friend has the right idea, the sooner you get and move the better. Praises for your friend!!!

Cartilage, one of the hardest thing right now is train my brain to let me walk the way im supposed to. Not the way ive been doing it for 13 years.I go for small walks just so I can tell my self out loud to walk normal, maybe to many pain meds???Lol

Well....
Its been a hot minute since ive been here.Had the total knees done...Right one 12/21 and the left one 1/16.And I have to say it hasnt been easy but manageable. The pain in the left is worse than the right for some reason, but again....Its manageable. They put you through the ringer during physical therapy but its much needed.I notice both knees get better and better after each session.Old habits die hard,i keep waiting for my right knee to get caught or my left to buckle as it had for so many years. But it doesnt....They function smooth.I am currently on a cain getting ready to move away from that as soon as the doctor says im able.Until then, its physical therapy 3 days a week where I go to town with my 8 lbs ankle weights and 20 minutes on a bike.

Godd luck! Im glad you seem to be doing so well. Keep your spirits up, you will get through this and with time you will be doing so much more. Well I have moved along quite well. It kills me not to ski with my kids this winter but a small sacrifice. I walk "normal" again. I still have the pain from the arthritis, I had synvysc injections they were to helpfully lube up my joints. I dont think it worked much, but the glucosamine/chrondritin does work. Dr says if I can bare the pain for a couple years, they have new tech. That will help. I will pray for your quick recovery and comfort and peace of mind as you go through this. God bless and take care.
