I want to run this by here before I make a docs appt.

You know how when you breath it's very smooth; in, out, in, out... About the last 7-12 months i've noticed about once, maybe twice a month i'll take in a breath but I can't release it..Like it gets stuck there. So i'll begin rapidly breathing short quick breaths because theres not much capacity, but also because I can't stop it. It last 5-10 seconds, then i'll relax and the air wil be able to be released.

It happened twice in one day though last week, and I thought, hmmmm...

Now i've also been very emotionally stresed the past year, so it might just be anxiety too.

Is this hyperventilation or does it resemble some other anxiety thing?

Well, it does sound kind of like a panic attack to me. Do you have any other symptoms when the breathing problems start? I have panic attacks. I have other symptoms besides breathing problems with mine though. I usually have fast heart rate, aches, and wierd sensations. Once I was completely paralized. I couldnt move at all. They can be rally scary. I usually feel like im dying when I have them. The thing iabout panic attacks is that they are different for everyone. Everyone can have different symptoms. Usually people have more than just breathing problems though. Could you possibly have asthma? I do have asthma and sometimes I have asthma symptoms that are pretty scary because they usually cause a panic atack or the panic attack causes asthma symptoms. Anyway I am no expert at all but if I can help in any way let me know.

Thanks
tia

Thanx for replying tia. At the time it happens it's just my breathing that's affected. But other times I do get a super fast accelerating heart beat for about 5 seconds, then it comes to a dead stop and back to a normal beat. So I posted this messege as well in the heart disease forum, didn't know where else.

I have other medical conditions that may or may not be part of it...And because of that i'm a bit of a hypocondriac :) but I was just curious if that sounded familiar to anyone.

I'm not a doctor but do you think you might have something called hyperventilation syndrome. About 5 months ago I felt as if I couldn't breath like I could not even get a big breath in. I started to freak out and it caused anxiety and then I had a panic attack and started hyperventilating. It would not hurt to get on the internet and look up hyperventilation syndrome and look at the symptons and see if you feel like that. If you do there is no cure, of coarse, just anxiety drugs. I got xanax but I only take it if I really feel scared and I cannot control it myself. Hope this helps but I also hope this is one thing you can rule out because I am still a sufferer of this.
