Women ovulate more than 1 day. Ovulation takes place around 6 days.

Women only ovulate once a month (sometimes more than one egg, though). There is a window of about 24-36 hours when you are fertile and can conceive (the egg doesn't live very long). Sperm can last longer than that in the female body so getting pregnant from sex you had 5 days before you ovulate is reasonable. On average, it takes 6-10 days for the fertilized egg to implant in the uterus and a week or two after that, you'll get a on a hpt. Do a little research on the net and you'll come up with more information than you ever wanted to know. I'd go with health and medical websites rather than message boards, though.
