I occaisionally have what I think is sleep
paralysis. It usually involves a
nightmare where I am being attacked or
dying, sometimes with a bad headache. I
try to wake up and move but I can't.
I've heard two schools of thought on this.
One says try to use every effort to wake
up. Another says, try to relax and you
will be able to move again faster. Which
should I do? They happen on average
every other month. When they happen and
I wake up in the middle of the night, half
the time they happen again in the same
night. That has made me afraid to go
back to sleep after having one of these
episodes.

This happens to me occasionally.
However, I didn't know that you could
control it. I have never been able to.
I just try to make myself realize that I
am dreaming and no matter what happens I
will be fine. As for them happening
again, what I do is make myself get out of
bed and watch t.V, or read a chapter in a
book or something to change my mindset.
If I go right back to sleep without
getting up, I also will have another bad
dream.

I agree with saturn24, it is possible for
some people to gain control over the
images, I find the best thing to do is
concetrate on an image of a loved one,
fond meory etc, and just try to block out
any unwanted thoughts.
Alsoi I find some soothing music helps me,
I normally leave someting very light and
airy on quietly in the background like
sigur ros, or soft classical music.
Even if it isnt your kind of thing,
anything calm in the background has a
slight influence over your thoughts,
personally I like heavy metal music, but
that would just incite too much brain
activity to try and carry on sleeping
