I just wanted to share some of my knowledge and experience in the many years i've suffered from migraines and maybe I can help some of you relate.
At an early age I was told my migraines were caused because they were inherited and thrown any meds the doctor could give to shut me up..My mom got fed up and kept bringing me back in hopes of an answer, all the hundreds of tests performed finally came to the conclusion that I had fibromyalgia and that was my main cause for migraines/pain in the neck/sinus problems. I started getting migraines at the early age of 8 (before that had severe constant ear infections) and continued through grade school and junior high til I was finally pulled out and homeschooled because I got them so badly every day. I was labeled a hypochondriac by many people, even family members until I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. After countless research later on in life I came to discover that many chronic migraine sufferers also were diagnosed with fibromyalgia and tmj. I am 20 years old now and the fluctuation of the migraines I get have varied much over the years and recently subsided to about 1 or 2 bad ones a month because of all the feedback i've receieved and life/eating/supplement adjustments.
More recenly I also have been dealing with major problem with my teeth, tmj and bite. I was told I grind my teeth at night and is the cause for waking up with a migraine. I have very soft teeth that have decayed badly no matter what I do, and I was told by my dentist that this and the tmj is what is causing my migraines. So I finally began to see a pattern here. I also noted that many people suffering from fibromyalgia have decay issues with their teeth due to lack of ability to absorb vitamins and calcium, as well as having fibro linked with tmj and myofascial pain syndrome. Since the teeth and head are also connected with your sinus's, that is the reason why i've also endured countless sinus infections.
I hope that some of you out there who are puzzled as to why you have migraines, have had the cat scans and tests and to no avail the doctors have no answer..That you press them to evaluate you for tmj and possibly see a dentist or tmj specialist. Many people overlook the fact that your jaw, bite and muscles have a great deal to do with migraines.
Here is just a list of some things that have helped me to deal and cope with migraines, and maybe will help you too:
-i think vitamins and herbs do a great deal of helping too and that you should research as much as possible to see what you are lacking in your body that could possibly attribute to this as well. There are so many great websites and information out there if you just take a look.
-massaging and blood flow is also a key role in helping migraine suffering. I bought a shatzu neck massager and when I feel one coming on will use that along with some peppermint and lavender oil.
-try heat instead of ice, or alternate in between. Hot showers are also great when having a bad migraine to help open up the cappilaries in your head.
-wear a nighguard if you grind your teeth or clenth at night, after 2 weeks you will notice a big difference
maybe some of you can also add your tips to help cope with living with migraines and your experiences.
