My basic question has to do with whether there is any relationship of pleurisy with lung cancer. Let me give some history first. I was diagnosed with an acute onset of pleurisy about 2 months ago. It was treated with antibiotics and most of the discomfort subsided after a few days. I was told that the condition could last 4-6 weeks during which time it was still present, but less so with each day. I have experienced symptoms again.........Not nearly as sever as the first episode, but nonetheless the symptoms of discomfort with deep breathing have returned. I should add that these symptoms were most notable during a swim workout. My concern is about the cause of the pleurisy. With all of the recent discovery of lung cancer, in particular, adenocarcinoma of the lung in relatively young women who don't smoke, I am wondering what the source of my problem might be? I have no symptoms other than occasional discomfort during deep breathing........The ct scan taken 2 months ago revealed an infection in the posterior lower lobe of the right lung.........The chest x-ray taken then and repeated about a month ago have both been unremarkable (normal) a ct scan has not been repeated since that time. I am wondering if a repeat of the antibiotics is a good idea and whether more detailed screening is needed. Any thoughts on this topic?

Pleurisy
It is scary. I have similar problems with pleurisy, but my first episode occurred about ten years ago. It happened at 1:30 in the morning, and I thought my lung had collapsed; it was so painful for about 30 minutes, during which time the tylenol took affect, and the pain was not as severe. I could not lie on my right side (my right lung is the location of the pain).
If you really want something to worry about--look up "pleural mesothelioma".
I might have my Dr.'s attention now because he sent me to have a mammogram which came back negative.
Let me know how your symptoms progress.
My pleurisy always occurs a couple days after I have run fever from a sinus infection.
This time the pleurisy lasted for two solid weeks, some days the pain was worse than on others.
