Infected Tonsil / Thing Next to It? With Picture
Posted: 08-29-05 08:04am

here's my painful swollen tonsil, and my .. I don't know what that's called .. With a hole in it.

I went to the doctor, and was given antibiotics 3 days ago, but it has only gotten worse and more painful. I'm going to go again tomorrow.

I'm 24 years old-- would getting my tonsils out prevent this kind of thing? I get sore throats all the time.

Sorry that picture is really nasty...

Go to your gp/doc whoever. Tell them its affecting to much of your life every year getting infections/coughs/sore throats because of your tonsils. I speak from experience as I got my tonsils out 4th sep there and am going thru the nightmare recovery process in my 7th day now. The pain has barely let up at all until a little bit today. But you know what they say. No pain, no game. Most gp's reccomend not to get them out the older you are. However it is normal practice for somebody who gets 3-5 throat infections a year get referred by their gp to the ent consultant who in most cases have a look and go thru the details with you of a tonsilectomy. I had at least 5 bouts of tonsolitits every year for the past 3 years and had enough. Good luck and good health to you for the future. ( I am 32 btw in case u were wondering )
