As someone else who suffers with dysthymia I found ProZackMI's answer unhelpful, antagonistic and provocative... who are they to comment in such a way without knowing more about the original poster's life and the steps they are taking to improve their situation!
As it happens I also have periods of deeper depression (as I understand is common with dysthymia) and need both ADs (although they have limited effectiveness) and mood stabilisers.
I have battled with this disorder my whole life and don't feel I and other sufferers merit the pull yourself together attitude! Advice about taking control of your life, adding structure, etc, are perfectly reasonable but without the need to put someone down when they probably already feel pretty bad about themselves and their lives.
P.S. I read this post when looking for information about treatment options for dysthymia sufferers, so have no idea how old it is!
