Hey did any of you have to get a pap smear around 5 months pregnant? My last visit the receptionist put me in for one and when I called and asked if that could wait til after having baby they said : "well if Dr. Scheduled you in for one then you need to get it done". Just wondered if it's safe to do that while being pregnant. They told me it is but is it really?

I had one done when I had my first doc appointment at around 6 weeks and my doctor told me that would be the only one they'd have to do through the whole pregnancy. I really don't see how it could harm the baby I mean I wasn't that far along yet but mine went fine. I would ask your doc though him/herself why they want you to have one just so you know whats going on.

Back in my day they used to always do the pap test and always do pelvic when id go to obgyn--different now. My daughter got checked when she first went in--only had one actual visit with her dr--seen only nurses and midwives, and was delivered by someone completely else. I dont like the impersonalness of it today.
