Q: Pain During Sex
asked by: lovely22 on August 24th, 2005

I am 22 and married. For the past few months now when ever my hubby have sex, I get a sharp shooting pain in my abdomen. In some positions it doesn't hurt but most of the time it's so painfull that I don't look forward to haveing it. I use to enjoy sex a lot. But now I hate to even think of the idea. Before I met my husbend I never had this problem. Sometimes I wonder if it's because of his size. But at the same time I don't thunk thats the reason it can't be that simple. Please if anyone has any advise as to what it might be I would love to know.

Thank you
nicole

Could Be His Size....
Or it could be having to do with your female parts. My friend has to have a hysterectomy - her uterus and cervix have dropped so far that it's pains her to have sex. Have you seen a doctor and had an internal exam?

Sounds like a tilted cervix.

I'm sorry... I know your diagnosis is a private matter, but i'm having a similar problem so I was hoping you might share what you found out from your doctor. I'd just like an idea of what's going on. Thanks!

Sometimes pains like this can be caused by your bf's penis hitting your cervix, which can indeed be very painful. I have had this kind of pain before during sex in certain positions. My cervix and uterus are what they call retroflexed, meaning they tilt towards my back.

My sister has the same thing. The gyno told her that for more comfortable sex she could try propping a pillow under her butt during sex. I guess this helps to control how the penis enters and moves in and out of the vagina.

Either way, just to be safe, still see your doc to make sure you don't have any cysts, or other problems. Keep us posted.

I think it is because of your parters penis size because my boyfriend has a big one and I have that problem

It may be endometriosis pain during sex is one of the symptoms I had the same thing my partner and I have been together for 18 months and it was never a problem but about 7 months ago it got really bad the thought of sex hurts! And I didnt think anything of it untill I realised I wasnt getting pregnant so I got it checked out and well ive got it at first it was only painfull sex and periods now its everything. Painful Sex
I have had this before also....You know when you go to the gyno and she checks your cervix to see if it is ok, then you get a really strange feeling in your stomach...It's the same with sex. When having intercourse you may get "bumped" the wrong way. It may be that your husband is hitting your cervix. Ask the doc about this to make sure and tell them all the symptoms.

I had the same type of pain. It felt like his penis was hitting my stomach and I thought I was going to vomit. It was from him hitting my cervix!!

Abdominal Pain
Hi,

i didn't read all the replies before responding, so i'm sorry if I repeat what someone else said (although it could reassure you to find out how you're so not alone with this issue).

I get that abdominal pain as well, especially when in doggy-style position. I had the pain with my ex, but not with other partners. I once read what a sexologist said about this, that in some positions the vagina becomes sort of shorter and you are more prone to feel pain. If it happens only while penetration at ''in'' and the pain goes away completely a couple of minutes after intercourse is over, personnally i'd say it's normal, there's nothing wrong with you.

From my experience, yes it depends on partner's genital size and shape, and can hurt in some position with one but in another position with another. Also, with my ex sometimes I was afraid to do doggy-style because afraid of the pain, but i'd do it anyway and sometimes it would actually not hurt, I don't know exactly why, but I was very greatful and appreciative when it went well!

Unless an expert tells you otherwise, I suppose the only option is to have your partner not go too deep inside you when you are in a position that causes you the abdo pain...

Good luck, please let me know if you find out other explanations/tips from good source!

Your gyno can tell you if you have a tipped uterus. I have one and so do about 1 in 5 women, some positions may hurt and the time of your cycle will probably have some effect also

Hi i'm a 23 year old female.I have realized since i've been married (1 year) i've been experiencing some pain during sex almost near the time of my period. Certain sex positions feel very uncomfortable to me. I can feel it the worst when i'm on top or when he his on top with my legs up. Futher a few days to a week before my period everything is fine again.
Can someone please shower some light on this situation, i'm really starting to get concerned.

The pain you feel could be any of or acombination of all these responses. Your best bet is to get a pelvic exam and ask lots of questions.
Dont automatically assume your doc will tell you if you have a tipped uterus, he/she may assume you already know.

Oh Thank Goodness..i Hope.
I feel the same pain in doggy-style. Like anorexia. I was so afaid sumthing might have been wrong but I think its just him hitting my cervix. He is well endowed. :d I though it might b from early uterus swelling from pregnancy. I may b preg. I dunno.

my gf complains of pain, especially during doggy style... I thought perhaps it was because, up untill recently, she was a virgin... and of course, there was some discomfort at first with most positions...

Now she loves missionary, and cowgirl... is it possible the discomfort during doggy will subside with time?|

I know in other positions, she experiances some pain if I go too deep, but its not a constant thing.. only a breif moment... but doggy, she pritty much wont do becuase of the discomfort.

...shes 22, and I don't think shes ever been for a gyno, I guess it could be a medical issue...

but assuming its not some adverse medical thing... are there any women out there who used to experiance pain or discomfort in this position, who have since begun to enoy it?... was there anything in particular you, or your partner did to help this progression from pain to pleasure?... or is it just a 'keep at it till it don't hurt' kinda thing... or, on the other end of the spectrum, is it something that just stays if you have it?...

I'd like to hear more about this please... other than "I like it" / "I don't"...

anyone?
