Allergy, Virus, Or What?

Last year I developed sinus problems and allergies, I had never had so badly before. I had "pulsatile tinnitus" in my left ear, which left me hearing my own heartbeat nearly half the time. Thankfully, that seems to have dissapated.

Now I have a new and unpleasant developement...Started with what seemed like a sinus infection, has now moved into my lungs. I have a deep chest congestion which is worse at bed-time and first thing in the morning. My nose is almost continually stuffed, I have to blow it numerous times a day (at least now I can taste and smell again....A month ago, I could do neither for a few weeks!)

i am even more concerned now, because I have a couple of swollen "nodes", one on the side of my neck, one under my left armpit, and another at my groin area...None bigger than a couple of centimeters.
Still, very scary, and for one without insurance, especially scary.

Does anyone have any ideas? Have symptoms such as these? Advice beyond "see a doctor".....?

You have an infection, that is why you have those " swollen "nodes" "- they are actually lymph nodes which have become like this due to the infection. The fact that the lymph node from the groin area is also affected is sign that your infection is spreading....You are in danger of developing a bacteraemia which is highly dangerous...It may lead to death even while being treated.

I don't know what to tell you...Haven't you had fever lately?

In order to fight the infection you have to know what germ is causing it...And for that you need a sample to be taken and an antibiogram done...This will tell you what you have to take in order to get rid of this. Maybe you can pay for this at an independent laboratory....

I don't know what else to tell you...Just that it won't go away by itself

Bacterial Infection

Kellyr~

i'm not prone to paranoia, and I realize swollen lymph nodes and a constantly congested nose are not a good sign....But I have never heard of a "bacteraemia"~ is that some type of bacterial infection? I was treated by a "free" clinic for the sinus infection last month, and took a course of antibiotic for that. The worst symptoms of that bout have gone away, but now I am left with this nagging respitory congestion....And that's pretty much it.
No fevers. Not unusually tired, actually, I feel pretty good otherwise. I figure my lymph nodes are a little swollen due to the constant battle against whatever is plaguing my system. If that is a bacterial infection, it has yet to manifest into anything else. Benadryl seems to help with the stuffiness and cough. Then it wears off. The weather where I live lately has been extremely hot, with some heavy rain, followed by bouts of windy dry weather....I know I have an allergy to mold as well. So, I imagine it could be any number of things.

Unfortunately, I am not in a position to get an independent lab test done, nor see a specialist. I just have to make another appointment with the catholic clinic, where they will do the minimum amount of medical examination of my problem, and probably prescribe antibiotic or antihistimines again, and I will either get over it, or end up in a hospital, before I truly get any help. :( that's the way it goes in this country.

"bacteraemia"=the presence of viable bacteria circulating in the bloodstream. But after what you told me now I don't think you will develop it.

Have you had asthma in your family? Have you been checked for it? "asthma= a disease process that is characterized by paradoxical narrowing of the bronchi (lung passageways) making breathing difficult."

and the weather isn't helping at all i'm afraid. I don't know what to say. It would be best to consult a specialist but given the circumstances... I wish you the best and keep us posted with your condition. I'm sorry I was of no help.

Good luck!

Aesthma

I too have been plagued in the last couple weeks with constant congestiuon in my chest.. I have had the free clinic tell me I have aesthma a couple years ago and as such have been taking the inhalers but am not impressed.

I am waking up with major congestion and on my walk to the skytrain in the morning (public transit) I end up coughing out lots of yellow phlegm and it is scaring me a lot ..
I am so freaking busy that I havent had time to go to a specialist but I am going cause I am not too impressed with being labeled with aesthma when no one I know with aesthma has the build up I do..
They usually suffer constriction of the small airways in the lung with no discharge while I have a constant build up of stuff..

I quit smoking two years ago and funy thing is I had less problems with my lungs while smoking??

I do not think that smoking is a good thing now but it is really wierd

anyways if you get any answers please email me and I will do the same

Well...It is hard to diagnose without seeing...Moreover when you are not a doctor... :) the general idea is that, as far as I know, there is a pearled mucous sputa, eliminated at the end of the coughing which represents the asthma attack. If the inhalers don't do their job...Which is to dilate your smaller bronchi, thus allowing you to breathe easily....Then you should see a doctor in order to replace them...
You have't specified wheather you have had any tests done before being diagnosed...That is important...Asthma can be a treaky disease...

I strongly advise you to see a specialist and do those tests in order to make sure it is asthma and what type. Also, to get your medication changed. Go as soon as yesterday...This is not something to postpone...

I have just seen that you are a carpenter...I must tell you that it is possible that if you have asthma it can be caused by working with wood...It could be a professional disease...Can you remember if the "asthma attcks"- severe caughing and chest restriction began at your woking place?...If so...If they used to be mainly there, it could be caused by that...

Hey,
i've had sinus problems too, though not to that extent. My friend told me about this website, www.Healthsiteguide.Com. I found some helpful information. It's worth checking out. Its a web portal to an enormous amount of health information.
