Help! I was diagnosed as type 2 in 1994. Oral meds alone weren't keeping bgls down, so last month I was put on lantus. My fbgs every morning are horrible - 160 consistently. However, as the day progresses, my bgls steadily drop to an acceptable level. I know this is either dawn phenomena or somogyi phenomena as I have set my alarm for 3-4 am and bgls are wonderful, mid 90's. Then I go back to sleep and 3 or 4 hours later I wake up and check again and boom, bg jacked up halfway to the moon! I'm getting very frustrated as nothing i've tried will make this stop. I've been increasing my lantus pretty much weekly (as my Dr. Instructs me of course). I've asked him about this and he says I just need to keep increasing my lantus dosage. I disagree - it just doesn't make sense that over the span of a few hours, without ingesting anything, my glucose can jump like that. Lantus is a basal insulin that is supposed to maintain a consistent level for 24 hours. It certainly shouldn't wear off after just a few hours (and then start working again a few hours later!).

Can anyone shed some light on this and offer some solutions that might work??

Thanks!
