Q: Postpartum Depression & the Nuva Ring

I have a 10 week old baby, and have had a moderate case of ppd since he was born. I think i've always had a slight case of depression and mild anxiety (even before pregnancy), but haven't ever treated it.

Anyway, I went on birth control a little over a week ago - the nuva ring which releases hormones. For the past 4 days or so, i've had pretty severe depression. I cry almost all day when i'm alone (no adults), and on one day, I thought about driving the car into oncoming traffic (just for a split second) because my baby wouldn't stop crying.

Because of my mood, these last few days have been pretty bad with my husband because i'm feeling so trapped, worthless, guilty, depressed, etc., and i'm taking it out on him.

My question is - has anyone had ppd that really didn't show itself in a big way for a while (it's been 10 weeks since he was born)? Or has anyone gotten depressed from the nuva ring?

Thanks for any help / advice. I'm to the point where I just want to get zoloft or something tomorrow to try to fix this.

yes! I had slight PPD, and didn't see anyone about it or mention it to the dr. at my 10 wk appointment. I seriously went nuts. I would scream at my BF and cry all the time. We were fighting all the time, and i couldn't stop thinkig about terrible things. One day I almost bit my baby b/c she wouldn't sleep and at the last second bit myself instead. I left my BF about once a month...hmmm...about a week and 1/2 before my "period".
It made things terrible for me and ever since I stopped with Nuvaring I no longer feel depressed at all! (I took the ring out in the beginning of December) My body is still out of whack from it (got my period on time but was light, didn't get it for two months, had a light one, then a heavy, but short one....*sigh*)
Talk to someone about your PPD, call up your gyno and tell her you're super depressed and you think it's Nuva, and take that thing out!!!
