I read this on this site:
Globalchange.Com/ttaa/ttaa 3.Htm#first%2 0signs of illness

first signs of illness

the first thing that happens after infection is that many people develop a flu-like illness. This may be severe enough to look like glandular fever with swollen glands in the neck and armpits, tiredness, fever and night sweats. Some of those white cells are dying, virus is being released, and for the first time the body is working hard to make correct antibodies. At this stage the blood test will usually become positive as it picks up the tell-tale antibodies. This process of converting the blood from negative to positive is called `sero-conversion'. Most people do not realise what is happening, although when they later develop aids they look back and remember it clearly. Most people have produced antibodies in about twelve weeks.

and I freaked out.
Reason being... I was dating this guy who I found out this week lied to me about everything from the beginning. I made him get tested and he was negative for hiv. We don't talk anymore but we did have unprotected sex once, 2 weeks ago. The day after, I experienced a fever, swollen armpit, and swollen glands in my throat (the doctor said it's tonsilitis but....I dont know the difference, all I know is that my throat hurt when speaking or swallowing). I also have a weird rash with little red bumps all over my body, mostly in the torso area and arms. They look like little red pimples. I went to the doctor and she said its psoraisis, except I find it weird that I have all these strange symptoms so close together? I have never even heard of psoraisis...??? (supposedly it pops up with allergic reactions, stuff you eat, your environment, and stress).

I went to get hiv tested this week and i'm negative, however, I know it's really soon. I also know hiv can be undetected for awhile.

I'm really scared because I don't know what evidence I can count on.

What if I have hiv?

1) can hiv symptoms show up so soon after infection, like the day after, that would result in me getting the strange fever like illness?

2) is it a symptom of hiv for all these weird red wart/pimple like things popping up on my body?

3) I also know another symptom of hiv is easily being bruised. I even got bruised when they took blood from me with the needle. The part where the needle went in my arm is all bruised. It's been 3 days.

I'm really, really, scared. I live alone as an expat in asia, I don't know if I can count on the doctors here. I feel so helpless and lonely and I can only count researching the net. Please someone tell me, am I overreating or is there a chance that I have it? It's been two weeks since I had unprotected sex with him and that's the last time I ever have unprotected sex, but i'm so scared. He tested negative, I tested negative... I'm afraid of the fever/sickness I had before... Sigh... I don't know what to do, I really don't!! I feel like crying!!!!!!

The red rash all over could be a sign of beginning of hiv too---but it could also be from stress and the body deals with stress in that kind of a way sometimes. Every since I got a heart attack I get hives(red bumps and itch) all over my body.

Im pretty sure the signs wouldnt be so soon though right. Keep researching and I will pray to god your wrong.

You are in my prayers god be with this person, heal their body and give them peace in jesus name amen

First of all you need to try to calm yourself down, I know it's hard. Let me tell you right off the bat that you are overreacting. Do you know when this guy you were with got tested, in comparison to when you had sex with him last? Even though he tested negative, he may have had a test to early to tell if he was hiv positive or not, and you probably should believe what he says either way.

It takes approximately 12 to 14 weeks for your body to start to produce antibodies for the hiv virus. This is what they are testing for in a standard hiv test. You will not experience the symptoms of hiv the day after you had unprotected sex. The reason you get flu like symtoms is because you immune system is working so hard to produce these antibodies. Therefore you will not experience them until 12 weeks after infection sets in. The illness you had the day after was probably a common cold, or flu which this guy may have had, either in the early stages, or just getting over it.
The little red bumps you are experiencing could be from a number of things. Though it is a symptom of hiv/aids, it usually is in the form of lesions, and not a common skin rash. Skin lesions usually don't appear until you have full blown aids. You probably got a rash from the stress you are experiencing right now. Other causes could be heat rash, eczema, psoriasis, hives, or a bacterial or fungal infection (from a gym, swimming pool, hot tub, etc.)
don't worry about the bruises at all. Almost everyone gets a bruise of some sort when they get an needle. Bruises occur in someone with aids, because the body is so slow to heal from even the most minor injuries.

I hope what I have told you helps. Please get tested 14 weeks after the last time you had sex, just to ease your mind.

Thank you so much. The guy I was dating met the girl last december, so if she was his only partner, i'd say i'd believe that the test is negative. However, i'm still really scared.

The doctor says I have psoriasis. I keep getting more and more of these little red bumps and I don't know how to make them go away. It's so embarrassing.....

Stop!
Oh my god!

Do not listen to people who irresponsibly make comments leading you to believe that you have hiv. Relax!

I have so many alarms that went off in my head conclusive of the fact that your symptoms (which could never be used as an indicator for hiv) are not indicative of ars.

Relax!

I don't doubt that you have something going on. I don't believe that all of it is related to stress. You need to simply go to the doctor again. Receive another full std panel. You may be surprised to find some answers to your questions.

Stop the seroconversion conversation and symptom searching. In the medical field, we know what sero is all about and you must take those thoughts out of your head. After 90 days from exposure to your boyfriend (creep or not, liar or angel) you should take your conclusive hiv test.

You're writing as if you received a death sentance. What are you going to do when you discover you'll be forced to live?

Yeah, they say you cant tell your pregnant the very next day too---lie I knew the very next day 4 of the 10 times I have been preg.

I am not saying she is sick but you dont know what is in her body or if it would react that quick. It is deadly virus for goodness sake you dont know what it will do to her body--you are not her. Yeah they can say anything in science books and dr manuels--but there are no set facts in science!!!

Stop!
If you continue to make such advise with comments such as "the rash could be the sign of the beginning of hiv," and you don't know the facts, you could and would possibly expose the recipient to many reactions including suicide.

We have known people who have been so convinced that they had hiv that drug overdoses almost took their lives. Another woman tried to kill herself and was found in the bathtub after slicing her wrists. She was wrongfully diagnosed on the web. As it turned out, her rash coincided with unprotected sex but was the result of having hepatitis. No hiv was detected even with a negative pcr-rna result being <50 copies after 90 days post-exposure. Scientifically, medically, whatever you choose to believe, the patient was negative and remains negative.

I urge you to use caution with your comments, whereas if you do not refrain, I will have no choice but to report you to the administrators of the site with a direct phone call.

We will not risk losing this site due to legal lawsuits charging that this site is permitting hyteria, for this site is important to many people. Govern yourself accordingly!

Hi carl,

thanks for your advice. This is the first time i've been so irresponsible and I can't excuse myself from it, so I really freaked out. Plus, i'm working as an expat far away from home with usually non qualified health care. I suppose all these reasons went to my head and I just thought the worst possible situations would probably happen to me....

Thanks for your reassurance. I will get tested 3 months down the road again just to ease myself. I will force him to go as well. Even though he was sleeping with that girl for 7 months, I don't know if she slept with anyone else 1 week before he got his test. What a stupid mistake I made, and I deserve all this stress for irresonsbility. A lesson learned.

I really hope that I am clean, and that I have nothing wrong with me. Honestly though... I have thought about suicide if diagnosed positive. Sigh....

You're Welcome!
Of course you had some strange thoughts greenana, but slow down a bit and listen to my comments and the sound advise by x0x011. Logically, we've all panic due to hiv and this should be a wake up call for all of us. It's true that you never know, but your situation is motivated mostly by anger and you assume the worst.

To answer your original questions, you can get a fever one day after unprotected sex, but it does not indicate or represent hiv. It doesn't happen overnight! Hiv is not very easy to contract but don't go looking for it.

The rash is a reaction. Pimples may pop up, but mostly it's one of two things. It's either a stress induced event (the mind is so powerful), or you did catch a virus. Don't assume hiv. You may have something going on, but i'm not sure and have so many alarms that ring that it is not hiv related. It could be std related, so you should also look into a full screening.

You're a woman so you need to check your iron level as well. It may answer your third question. Multivitimins will help because you have been going through too much lately.

Since you had unprotected sex, take an antibody test three months after your last exposure. Then, take the entire hiv fear issue and stuff it in a garbage can. Find a new boyfriend with assurances that he'll be safe. You know what i'm talking about.

In my book, you're asking the right questions and please, please, please, don't listen to unreasonable advise. Suicide is a very serious problem if successful. I'm glad we have you here!

Wow carl,

your advice means so much to me! I can't depend on the doctors here and everyone else just tells me from their own experiences and I don't have a true foundation of facts. Thank you.

Hiv is not easy to contract... And I have to tell you, when we had unprotected sex, we stopped around 10 minutes into because I was just so scared. So, he did not ejaculate in me at all. Do you think I am safer because of this reason?

He meant it's not easy to contract because the virus is fragile, and cannot survive outside of the human body for long. Therefore it does require to be spread sexually or interveinously. Whether he ejaculates in you or not, there is still a risk just as large, of pregnancy and spreading stds. Precum contains sperm and it can contain viruses too.
Just so you know for next time, to prevent pregnancy too! Never rely on pulling out.
