Q: Tingling In Legs..may Be Restless Leg Syndrom?

I have had, as to best as I can describe, getting an "electrical" "creepy crawly" "annoying" sensation in my legs for 5 years now, I am only 21. I get them in both legs..But generally not at the same time. Now in the past year, it has spread to my right arm as well. Now I find that this happens generally at night when I try to go to sleep or if im in a car for too long..Or just because. And when this happens I have to move my leg, I get up, walk around, stretch, shake my leg..Do anything I can to get it to settle down. This has lost me many a nights sleep. I have asked doctors what it is..And no one ever seems to know. I had recently seen a commercial on tv about restless leg syndrom and it seems that I have all the symptoms of it. I went to my dr and discribed to her my symptoms and asked her about restless leg. They said they want to run some tests on me, an ekg to see if my nerves are damaged or pinched, and give me an xray to see if they can find anything. In the mean time she gave me some muscle relaxers to see if it would help. And they do..But as soon as they wear off..About 3-4 hrs later..I wake up, and the annoying sensation is back. This is very hard to live with. At first I used to only get it maybe once or twice a month, but now I get it everyother night. Does anyone have any suggestions on what they do to make it go away? Or easier to deal with?

Restless Leg
Sorry to hear you are having this problem. I am much older than you (61 yo woman) but I suffered from restless leg for so many years not knowing what it was. I first became aware of the problem as I was sitting watching tv in the evening. I couldn't keep my legs still in my lazy boy. Then when I would lay down in bed my legs would start to move, sort of like riding a bike. I couldn't keep them still. During the night I would wake up and they would be moving. Then it went to my arms. I would literally pull my arms to stop the feeling and when it would not stop in arms or legs I just had to get up and walk around the house, sometimes just sitting in a chair until the feeling subsided.
I finally went to a "sleep disorder" md. He did a sleep test among other things but the thing that helped me most - did away with restless leg altogether was mirapex. It is a drug for parkinson disease. I take 1/2 of a o.25mg tablet before going to bed. The first night I could not believe it. I just layed there and nothing moved. It was great. I have been on it for around 5 years now. Occasionally I forget to take it and I do ok. Other times when I forget, the feeling creeps back into my legs. I immediately take the pill. See if your doctor is aware of this treatment. It is worth a shot. Good luck to you.
