Q: Pap Smears While Being Pregnant?

At one of my first couple of office visits I could have sworn that I was told to get another pap smear after my babys born. Well at the end of my appt. Yesterday I was scheduled to get a pap smear at my next appt. (the receptionist I think is new...Never saw her before, so thought maybe she didn't know what she was talking about). This is my first pregnancy so I was just curious as to what you girls think.

As far as I know it is totally normal and fine to have a pap during pregnancy. I had one at my last appt.

Oh boy do I hate those! Talk about being violated!!!! I too had one at my first visit, luckily I didn't spot either. I think my husband is still laughing at me because he knows how much I hate paps....And they don't warn you before you get to your appointment (at least they didn't at mine) so it's like "surprise!!" just thought i'd put my 2 cents worth in! :d

Hey at my 20 week dr appointment they told me that I was going to have to get a pap smear as well but see I am now 23 weeks pregnant and pap smear is scheduled for july 14th which ill already be in my 6th month and my sister who is 29 with 3 kids of her own say that they shouldnt be doing anything down there because it can induce labour so I think that I might refuse it because its sort of weird that they just all of a sudden want one I havent had one since I was pregnnat but they waited way to long now...

When I first went into the doctors, I was about 2 months. At that point the told me at my three month visit that it will be a total check up (including a pap test).

I don't think it could induce labour, specailly only at 6 months.

I think they do a pap test to see if anything is wrong, then if they find out early they can help the baby be okay.

Different doctors probably just do the test at different times, but I couldn't see it effecting anything or they wouldn't do it.

Y I dont know either but premature birth runs severely through my family so they have to be careful with me my cousin just delivered her babies at 26 weeks they are still in hospital, but she refused a pap smear as well.. I thought that you only had to get them every 6 months I got mine regularly before I was expecting I dont know I guess ill just have to see what the dr says right:p
