Q: Stunted Growth

I am a recovering anorexic (just turned 15), but I was anorexic from the 12-14, and only grew an inch in that whole time. I am only 5"3 and a half right now, but I was always tall when I was younger. My mom is 5"7 and my dad is 6"1. However, I got my period when I was almost 12. Is it possible to grow in height any or much more?

Well anoreixa does stunt your growth because you starve your body of the nutrients it needs to grow...But usually height is predetermined. We can do only so much to grow past that pre-determined height. Usually once you get your period, you dont grow that much....Maybe only a few inches.

It is possible for you to grow a little more. I got my period at the age of 12, my growth nearly slowed to a halt and I only grew miniscul-y for the next couple of years and then seemed to have stopped at 5'3 or so (i come from a short family) at the age of 14 or 15. But at the age of 19, I grew about 3/4-1", and stopped right there. Just continue to eat right, make sure you have an adequate amount of protein and unsaturated fat in your diet, and don't worry. Good luck!~

I forgot to mention that I was battling with a.N. Between the ages of 12 and 15 (esp 12-14 - the critical pubescent years). I am technically 'normal' - my fam expected me to grow to 5'4 (averaging thru the gene lines). Unless you made yourself extremely underweight - just skin and bones - you are probably fine. I've seen other girls have growth spurts between the ages of 15 and 17. :)
