Question I was told by my daughter's nurse (whom I was taking her to see for the first time) that she should not get a Pap Smear until either she is sexually active, or until she is at least 18 years old. Is this true? I seem to remember getting mine when I started my period. My daughter started hers about 4 moths ago. What is the average age for the first Pap?

They usually never do pap smears on teens until they become sexually active or as you said 18.

You don't have to get one until you are sexually active. Some doctors recommend getting one when you turn 18 just to make all is well, but you don't really have to until you're having sex.

My daughter had to have one before the doctor would prescribe the birth control pill and she wasn't active. Now she's going on her second year of having pap's.
