Ok I have had an iud in for about a year now and have been having problems here lately that have really got me worried. To start out with I am really not sure which one my old doctor had put in cause the information she gave me for it was one the copper t but I had asked for the other one so I don't kno. Anyhow. I have been having horrible cramps for quite a while now, sometime for a week before I actually start my period. But the other night they were so bad that it felt like the contractions I had had with my first baby. They even woke me up from sleeping and it seemed like nothing I could do would even decrease the pain. Also the past couple of months the discard has started out brown (which i've never had before) and then it turns red after a day or so and it is really heavy most of the time. Along with this I have had clots with it. I can still feel the string but it almost seems closer than it was before. I am so ready for the damn thing to be off, but I don't know what to use for birth control then if I do as I am very fertile it seems. If any one can relate to any of the above symptoms or has any input on them or if any one has any ideas for another bc method. It would be much appreciated. I was on bc after my first baby and didn't get back on it because I heard that if you were over a certain weight then it is less effective and I actually suspect that I had gotten pregnant while on my bc pills but am not totally sure of course I was on the bc pills without estrogen or whatever cause I was nursing. So I guess I am not totally against going back on them if it came down to it.

Sorry so long!!

Ok im not a doctor, but here are some things that could help you out.

The pain, get it checked out you could have endometriosis.

The brown discharge, brown discharge is usually old lining from your last period that didnt make its way out.

Clotting: you are shedding the lining of your uterus not all of it turns into liquid there might be little chunks in there. (if theres a lot of clotting and pain it could be a miscarriage)

as for birth control try getting the shot, my sister is on it and she loves it, plus you only have a period for only 4 times a year (then you wont have to deal with weird discharge or cramps!)

i dont really know much about iud's I would be to afraid to use one, if you really dont think something is right with it go to the doc and get it checked out.
