I am 40 years old with a history of regular periods and one child. I haven't had a period in 2 months but have tested negative repeatedly on a hpt. My question - is there any was possible I could still actually be pregnant! Please help if anyone knows the answer to this. Thanks in advance!

Hi country,

after 2 months of absent periods, if you are pregnant you can expect an accurate result from the pregnancy test by now. That is plenty of time for detectable hcg levels to build up in your system. Although in saying this, I have heard of women who are in fact pregnant but not testing positive until their 2nd month. So I guess at this stage you cannot rule out a possible pregnancy. However, there are other things you need to take into consideration aswell, such as your age. As we get older, our chances of concieving are dramtically lowered. I would suggest going to your doctor and requesting a blood test, which will determine whether you are actually pregnant or not. If not then your doctor will probably do tests to figure out why you are not getting your period.

Good luck...
