Hole In Throat Left By Tonsil
In 1967 I had my tonsils removed. In the late '70s I noticed a hole in the right side of my throat with white stuff. I went to the doctor and he removed the white stuff and said he had not seen anything like it before.
In the 80's and 90's I had the hole fill up a few times and again had the stuff removed. In 2003 the hole kept filling up at least five times a week.
My doctor at the time sent me to a throat doctor. He said it was tonsil stones with nothing to worry about. However, he did surgery to remove the outer tissue in order for there to be no more hole. This was the most painful surgery since it was so close to the ear canal (and I have a high pain tolerance: example I went back to my wharehouse job two weeks after having my acl replaced in my left knee. Most people would be out a couple of months).

Two weeks ago the hole started bothering me again. I can clean it out and open my mouth to find more of the white stuff. I seems endless. The hole has come back but seems deeper and more down the side of my throat than before. It is painful and a little red. When I go to clean it out with a long sterile swab I can open my mouth the first time ok. When I go to open it again my throat seems constricted and my tongue does not want to cooperate. I gag, my eyes water, my throat hurts making me feel really bad for a while afterward.

I thought about going to the doctor again, but he probably just tell me it's nothing. I disagree it is something that really is bothering me.

Go to Doctor Nj
Nj,
please go to the doctor about the hole. It is not normal. I don't want to scare you, but there is a good possibility it is a sore that is infected. Infected sores that don't heal can cause serious problems. If your regular doctor won't help, go to a different ent than the one you saw before with or without a referral. And, please go now.
Carol

p.S. Let me know what happens. I apologize now if everything comes back fine and I scared you over nothing. I hope that's what happens.

Tonsil Regrowth
I know this sounds strange but im pleased that some one else has a tonsil bud.
I never realised that they can grow bk. My left started to grow bk about three yrs ago which I thought was a long time I had my tonsils out when I was 5yrs old im now 32yrs old.

It is a perfect round smooth bump with 3 little white spots under the skin I have tried to remove them but they are not cooperating!!!!
I do also have a small hole just above it but that was from a abcess there last year and that was the lasting result of this after treatment.

But I have noticed that my tongue is white at the bk but the ent said this was nothing to worry about as this is where I have been drinking tea.

I would lie to say hello to catswold as well, hi huney

take care nj

let us know how u go

possible tonsil regrowth
i had all my tonsil tissue removed; and at the time of my surgery my physician stated that the chances of them growing back were slim and that if they did it would many years before i would even notice...well, i had mine out at 21 because they never stopped growing in the first place and were beginning to constrict my airways...now I am having similiar problems like before my surgery....after reading some info here i think i will make an appt with a ent...

Tonsil Tag Nightmare
I had my tonsils out 8 years ago, I was 25. For the last two years I have had a constant ear ache in my right ear. After numerous test and medications, we've finally come to the conclusion that I the right tonsil tag left behind is the cause. My ENT explained that they didn't excise all the tissue during tonsil removal, that was attached to the tounge. Apparently now they do. It's taken me this long, but maybe now I will get some releif. Keep pushing for an answer, if you are not satisfied. It is not normal to be in costant pain or have constant infection.
