Q: Unrepresented At Divorce Hearing

My husband and I went to a lawyer together because I felt that we had agreed on everything. I was absolutely ignorant of what a divorce entails. When the judge was questioning me she asked "do you realize that you're unrepresented?" I said that I was shocked and had no idea that that was the situation. I must have gone white on the stand!

I had no money of my own to pay a lawyer, so I trusted the one we went to. My ex knew him from some tavern they used to hang out in. (the lawyer lost his wife and family many years ago, due to his drinking problem)
I did think it was unusual that he asked no questions about who was going to pay my supplenental insurance, and dental, and let my husband decide on all the finacial figures. He made all the decisions with no advice from the lawyer.
My ex has free insurance from work and pays practically nothing for prescriptions and has dental coverage. I'm on social security and have no drug or dental coverage.
The supplement costs quite a bit.
What really upsets me is that i'm a huge deduction for him and i'm left with high income taxes and medical payments. The law should take into consideration the facts of each divorce case. I was totally innocent of anything yet he gets away with everything!
The divorce took place 2 years ago. Is it too late to seek adviice from another attorney?
I was married for over 40 years.

Thanks for any help......
