Hi. I'm an 18 year old male who has a bad problem with consistantly thinking of food. It seems like it's 24/7. I am a little bit on the heavy side, but grossly over weight. I eat healty means every day, for the most part. But I just can't get my mind off of food. When I have a meal, I always want to have second or third helpings. I try to limit myself to 1 helping, & I do for the most part, but I can't stop thinking about getting up & getting more. & I can't seem to lose weight, i've tried everything. I've been on all sorts of diets, I exercise regularly, & play varsity foodball, & I just can't seem to shed the weight. What can I do to get my mind off of food? I don't know if this would be considered an obsession or what. Does anybody have any ideas on what I can do to get my mind off of food?? I can use all the help I can get.

You sound like you could have the beginnings of compulsive overeating disorder. Do suffer from low self esteem? Is food used to comfort you, or used in celebration? You should get dr phils weight loss challenge book, it really does help if you read it an absorb it, it may make you see food as purely nutritional and not wanna keep eating it, it also has good tips for excercising and what food choices to make. Its not at all a fad diet, its all about changing your lifestyle and it totally works. I hope this helps some what, if you have anymore questions fire away. Being anorexic/bulimic for ages I know athing or 2 about food

Food On the Mind
Many people along with guidelines try to limit fat in their diet. Fat is satisfying and signals the brain to stop eating (so does protein).

Try to avoid processed foods and eat whole foods, whether animal or vegetable. Try doing low carb for a while and eat more fats.

You may also have a vitamin/mineral deficiency caused by over eating processed foods. Try taking a general supplement for a while.

You should seek out a nutritional therapist to put you on the right track.

"i am a little bit on the heavy side, but grossly over weight." I ment to say "but not grossly over weight." that was a typo. Sorry about that. Thanks for the help.

You are 18 and pretty active ~ maybe your body really needs alot of food right now because you are still growing plus building muscle when you work out. As long as you choose healthy food ~ fruits, veggies, whole grain, lean proteins ~ you won't get fat. Just cut out junk food & sweets. You don't want to starve yourself because you may stunt your growth. Go see a doctor and/or nutritionist for advice.

i understand what you mean
Im not too heavy but i could loose about 30 pounds:)...I hate that i think about food all the time!~

I think its an oral fixation or like that other person said an ocd a compulsive disorder if that's the case. You have to learn to play tricks on yourself if you like things in your mouth and that leads you to think of flavors and foods.you should make home made slushies of fresh strawberries ice and like a splenda instead of sugar.and chew gum eat ice

get out of the house a lot to be away from the kitchen more and avoid commercials best to avoid most TV unless you can control what you watch with tivo commercials send a lot of signals to people about food

fast foods love to make millions on people at any cost even if the foods mcdonalds clog peoples arteries and kill them they actually call the obese people who frequent their "restaurants" heavy users like drug addicts.

My point in this is that since we are all young we have been seeing commercials and have had these same fast foods in our lives so many of them in all the main streets this is why the more you cook at home using fresh veggies and less fried stuff life with food will be a struggle.

drink tea and lots of water and make yourself walk more. walk away from the desire and think more positive about yourself your young and your smart cause at least your aware enough to know to reach out and ask for help.

Keep your head up and stand tall.you can fight those urges I've lost 109 pounds ..and Im always going to have to fight my urges its not easy but its possible. PEACE and love Misty~

compulsive eating
I think you might find hypnotherapy helpful with your obsessive need to overeat.
If you were regressed the cause might be found and dealt with. Its obviously psychological in cause and hypno with a good therapist(like me Ha Ha!! however I am based in the UK)can sort you out for the long term.
good luck
