Q: How to Protect My Family From Hep B

My 81 year old asian father has a bleeding ulcer near his belly button. While treating his ulcer, we were told that he has hep b. He has antibodies and is protected. But, we were told to wear gloves while cleaning his ulcer. We don't know when and how he got hep b since he rarely visits a doctor. My father does not have the best hygienic habits. I am afraid we have been and continues to be exposed to his bodily fluids (i.E. Sputum, ooze from the ulcer on gauzes he leaves around, etc).

Should we get tested for hep b? How should I handle his laundry (i was washing his clothes with ours.) should I bleach everything? What about colors? Should I wash his utensils/bowls/plates separately? Is there specific dish detergent I should use? How should I be cleaning the bathroom?

I am specifically worry for my 7 year old. Please help. Thanks.

I do not know where you live but if you live in the u.S.A. Your Dr. Should either talk to your family of have a home health nurse out to instruct the family on the situation. Call and talk to your drs nurse about it.
