Q: Withdrawal From Medication

Question
i have been taking an anti-depressant and lithium for 2 years.
I am pretty sick of taking it and have been a bit slack lately.
If I don't take it after a couple of days, I get lightheaded and dizzy and generally feel like crap.
Then when I do start taking it again, I get sick in the stomach.

Does anyone else have this problem?

??
Are you discussing stopping taking your medication with your dr? And if so, why aren't you just decreasing your doses rather then making yourself sick by withdrawling? Lithium is a pretty potent med for depression, and you would think the withdrawl would be worse...I hope you figure something out, because like all people we dont like to have to depend on drugs to make our lives liveable do we? I've been through that too, I abruptly stopped taking my meds in the summer, and got very ill, to the point where I had a break down and was hospitalized....So yeah...

Hi patty,

ebby is absoloutely right. You cannot abruptly stop taking any anti depressant, the withdrawal symptoms are so severe it is not possible to cope. That is why, like ebby said, you must be under the instruction of your doctor to stop taking anti depressants. The doctor will decrease your dose to a safe level, and gradually decrease the dose further once he/she is happy with your progress. Please don't attempt to do this alone, it can be very painful.

Good luck
