We burp, belch and fart an average of 12 times a day. But why do we have gas? And what is intestinal gas?...the basics here....
Intestinal gas forms from two main sources - swallowed air and bacteria in the intestine. Plus, learn which factors to avoid to decrease the likelihood of gas....
How much gas is normal? Usually symptoms of gas and flatulence are more bothersome than serious. But learn when you should seek help for excessive gas here....

Who out there knows anything about the vegas nerve stimulator.
Where can I find a hospital/ dr that does this.? I live in ca but would be willing to go anywhere.
Yes I know you have to go through a lot of procedures first & everyone is not a candidate. But to date I have not found a nurologist that will even discuss an alternative other than the pills. Is their an insurance out their that would cover this. ( I know that mght seem like a dumb ?) but you never know whats available until you start asking questions.

I am sorry the doctors will not discuss it with you! Usually there are not tests prior to a vns (vagal nerve stimulator)...........

You can do a google search on vns and get lots of info. Cyberonics is the manufacturer and they have a site for info on it as well. I think they also have a listing of where neuros are who implant them.

Hope you can get better help soon.

Vegas Nerve Stimulator
Hi Brit girl! This was one of the options my Doctors at the University of Iowa were looking at a couple of years ago. At that time it had a 33 1/3 success rate and they were a bit leary about it, however it is being done and their are hospitals that will do it.

U of I is a great hospital with one of the top Neurology clinics in the world. I have referred several people to them and they've either had a decrease in seizures or a complete stop.

I've had them for about 30 years now and the VNS is something that I am ready to do. It's something that will be talked about to my Doc. when I go up next month.

If you can, try to get an appointment with either Dr. St. Louis or Mark Granner. Their top of the line and I know you will be happy with what they can provide you.

Best of luck to you and i'd be happy to hear how it turned out!

I used to work at this hospital in 1992. They do have an excellent reputation and a great neurology clinic. You could probably contact them for more info on getting the procedure approved by insurance, and what composes the best candidate for the procedure. i know it does not help every type of seizure, but I know that many people have had their symptoms greatly reduced through the implantation of one.

I have just had the VNS inserted in my daughter
My daughter suffers from partial generalized seizures and we just had the surgery to implant the VNS on February 5th. Dr. Renfroe here in Pensacola approved this surgery after we had 6 failed medications over the course of two years. Unfortunately for us, her body is fighting the implant and while it is controlling her seizure activity it has opened up a host of other problems.
