Hello,
i am 25 and have recently begun to learn more than I ever wanted to know about anxiety and panic disorder after having a few terrible attacks.

I was prescribed xanax for quick relief but more recently i've just had a general sense of anxiety every day so I went back to the doctor and he prescribed lexapro once a day.

I typically don't like the idea of pills and like to think I can get over this without medication but it has been almost unbearable lately so i'm thinking I might give it a try.

I'm paranoid about all the side effects i've read about though and don't know if its worth it? Can anyone out there tell me their experience with lexapro or if there are any better alternativves?

I haven't tried therapy or anything like that but am wondering what has worked for others. Please advise. Thanks!

Lexapro
I tried lexapro and didn't like the side effects. Before that I tried paxil. The side effects for me were identical. I think the worst side effects are definitely the sexual side effects, dry eyes and mouth, and just a general spacey feeling. However, i've heard lexapro really works for so many people. I have a good friend who has been on it for a year and loves it. She feels level-headed and doesn't have that daily anxious feeling. Try it and see if it works for you. If it doesn't work for you, just a bit of warning, taper off of it slowly. There are withdrawal symptoms that vary from person to person. I just take xanax right now, but I know what you mean about wanting to get rid of that general feeling of anxiety. Good luck. Let me know what you decide.

Don't do it!!!!!!!! Nobody will warn you about trying to get off of the drug!!! It is a completely wretched drug. I am in the process of writing a letter to the fda about making doctors warn patients about getting off of lexapro and how absolutely miserable it is. Not to mention there is a huge weight gain with it. Trying to lose weight on it is like trying to walk up a mountain with a boulder on your shoulders.

Extremely eHealthy
My husband was on it and had no side effects. The problem was that after a short period of time it pretty much stoped working.
