Q: After Abortion

Hi, I had a medical abortion about 4 weeks ago. I went to my 2 week check up and the doctor said everything was clear. That day she put me on the pill and for about the last week I have been having some pains in my lower abdomen. Has this happened to anyone else? Does any one know if it is the pill or the abortion or both? I talked to a friend and she said it could be the uterus shrinking back to normal, does it take that long?

Could be either one. I had an abortion about 3 weeks ago. I took emergency contraception and got a lighter period. The cramping pain should be inverstigated by a doctor. You should see a doctor to be on the safe side.

It could be several of things.. It can be from the abortion as to yes the uterus or it could be a side affect from the abortion or it could even be you body preparing for a menstrual cycle.. If you have an obgyn give them a call and ask to spek to a nurse or charge nurse, and they could give you some answers to wether or not you should be re checked.. Good luck

I disagree. I think you should wait and see if the symptoms clear up in a week or so. If not, see your doctor or the doctor that performed the abortion. It could be an infection or it could be menstrual pains as well.

That is why you need to talk to the nurse.. If it is an infection you dont want it to get worse.. You could always try an take tylenol for the discomfort..

Tylenol is helpful but the nurse would be a better option.

Health After Abortion
I cant seem to find the email I sent-it was a long one as well.
Lets just say-dont leave anything too long without getting checked. I was very healthy before-periods were light and painless,-i had a termination 4 yrs ago with cramping/pelvic pain 7 days a week/heavy,clotty periods, ovulation pains that kept me of work. My health went so bad over 4 yrs I had a hysterectomy 10 wks ag0- my ovary was squashed in my bowel and had cysts on my right ovary.I know this is linked to my abortion because I never had this before it.
I a childless at 33 yrs old but physically I am 100ūtter-emotionally I wont forget the experience-time is a healer.
I am writing to the clinic as I cant understand why they dont offer antibiotics/scans after they have done abortions. My gynae and doc dont want to point fingers but I still feel frustrated because I dont have the answers- doctors thought I was going potty and the pain was in my hed-id luv to go back and tell them now.
I had cramps for 6 wks after abortion-they told me it was normal-till I couldnt cope no more-i went back and had some retained tissue. Nightmare.
I really do hope you feel better and please listen to your body.Cramps and pain are not normal.
Take care

they do. And the abortion doesn't touch the ovaries. Just the uterus. You probably had issues before and never knew it.
my clinic didnt offer antibiotics or scans till there was a problem with the retained tissue. You may be right but its funny that I never had any medical problems or even any surgery in that area before-something must had triggered it off.I know my own body and how I feel.Iv read on this site that girls have cramps 8 mths after abortion and my heart goes out to them.

every clinic gives two things out after an abortion... Antibodics and pain medication. Period. Standard protocol. End of story.

wrong.... Where I had my abortion they only gave me a chair with ginger ale and a cracker for an hour, and I was sent home...

They sometimes will give you the antibiotic through the iv and sometimes you do not even hook you up to the iv until you are out of it. Different drs do things differently, especially now-a-days. You should check with your dr or the assistant.
Good luck, we are here for you!

If you have an abortion in a hospital, then sometimes they will give you iv anti biotics there. But tazzy.. That is sad, because I have not known anyone to not get any kind of take meds.. I work in clinics... Hmmm... If this was long ago, then things do change..

you obviously have some sort of attitude problem and should not be advising or helping anybody on this site. Do you have no compassion???
Im just advising that they dont leave it too long without getting it checked.
I should know what the clinic did and didnt- your username speaks for itself-sont you think?? End of story.

What you have is a complex. You believe nobody and care for nobody because your a heartless cold stone. You think everyone isout to get you and "lie" to you when in reality you are your own worst enemy. And everyone recognizes this as soon as you write something because you cannot write anything sensible.

why? Because I don't believe you? Just as carifairy stated, antibodics are always given out. They give a small snack after in the recovery room, but when you leave, you are given antibodics to take for 10 days after.

i don't know, this post made sense to me, sunshine. Why? Do you find it confusing?

well it's possible you either went to a bad clinic a long long time ago, or the hospital you went to gave you iv antibiotics and you didn't even notice, right after the procedure.

do you not listen?Im 34 yrs old,you are not speaking to a child, yes clinics in theory must do that but what im saying is that I wasnt offered any meds. And yes I do remember clearly. My gynae 2 wks ago said there was a high chance that I got an infection from it- do you want to argue that one? There is a 0.2%chance of retained tissue after abortion-do you want to argue that as well?
Mos women log onto this site to see how others are coping, instead they are patronised and humiliated.

well I didnt have any to take away with me-no prescription, nothing.

They told me the first few weeks was normal to have cramps/bleeding.

Good job I went back-having retained tissue left inside me-
its scary reading that women are still having cramps 6 mths later after it.

You may be right I probably did go to a bad clinic and I hope things have changed from 4 yrs ago.

- but there is sensitivity chips missing with certain people on here.
