So glad to have found this post. I too have been having similiar symptoms that just showed up the past year, since I had my third child. The frequency of the cold liquid feeling has increased the past 4 months...which conincides exactly with an increased bout of anxiety. I''ve always had anxiety, when I was a child I had anxiety attacks at night. Went to counseling, never had them again until college. Had another bout of anxiety, went to counseling, okay again for another few years. This is the first time I''ve had physical anxiety symptoms. I thought I was dying for sure until I found this forum! I may still go to a doctor to get my head checked to be sure, but I feel it''s most likely caused by my anxiety. It doesn''t surprise me that anxiety could cause such powerful symptoms. To those who have never had anxiety before, don''t doubt it! It is the MOST COMMON of all the mental illnesses and affects many, many people. To give you a clue of how common is is, tests have been done of the water all over the country and found residues of anti-anxiety meds in many municipal water supplies. Anxiety is a real thing! I think as I''m aging, my body handles it differently. I don''t have panic attacks anymore, and am able to use my emotional and spiritual tools to control it when it surfaces, but these physical symptoms may very well be a new way my body is trying to handle my anxiety. Many thanks to all those who posted and helped me reach this conculsion!
Hej, I have also kind of same feeling on my right side of head. I have this sensation for last 5 years. I do not know what is wrong in my head. I have done my CT scan, MRI.THe doctor said that there is blood blockage in my brain. I was given anti-depression medicine which did not work, instead it creased. My neurologist has given me new medicine called trimonil retard.I do not want to eat this medicine. I am fed up with medication. None of that works. I look good , happy and smiley guy. I am studying computer science now. I am really hopeless due to my problem now. I do not know what to do ?
I know there are lot of people like me , those wanna get ride of this sensation. Please share if any one of you get solution of this problem. I am doing yoga and jogging now in the hope that i will be cured one day. Its really frustrating and annoying surviving with this kind of diseases. we are prison inside us. No one can see it . No one can feel it and its hurting us . I do not know what to do , how to cure ....pls god help us!
Holy cow, ok this just hit me. Was sitting on the sofa watching TV when it hit. At first I thought maybe the AC was blowing on the back of my head and neck. Checked the AC and it was off. I live in St Pete Florida, it's 81 inside right now, and my head and neck are freezing. I jumped in the shower strangely the water was nearly scorching on most of my body but was cool like tap water on my face, neck and shoulders.
I am 43 and retired, I have low stress, and was totally kicked back relaxing when this hit. I have had a dull headache off and on for the past two weeks, and some numb tingling in my fingers and toes like they are asleep. I thought maybe the fingers and toes were just from coach potatoing but now I am starting to wonder.
My mother has similar complaints. She has had this feeling on and off for quite a few years. At first, she described it as cold air blowing thru her head. Now she says it feels like menthol in her head. Along with this feeling she has headache and her mind is not clear. She says she also feels feverish and sweats. She thinks that this is the feeling ppl have when their "time" is coming near. She too is a worrier and does not cope well with stress. She's had a lot of stress here and there over the past 38 years (experienced some hair loss at one time and another time had a severe dizzy spell - spinning walls). I wouldn't doubt that she has some depression as well.
She is also a diabetic and has neuropathy, osteoarthritis, and some collapsed vertebrae in her neck (kyphosis - small hunchback). She had an MRI and maybe some other scan done a few years ago...the neurologist only found signs of an old mini stroke (that we were not aware of) and of course prescribed some migrane meds. IMO, I don't think most MD's really know much about this condition. After reading all the posts, I see that a common denominator is stress/anxiety and other neurological problems (i.e. spine, fibromyagia, arthritis, epilepsy).
It seems that being able to destress and release anxiety are key to relieve this sensation. Just as pain is an indicator that we are touching something hot or sharp or that we are going beyond the physical limits our bodies can handle, perhaps this sensation is an indicator that stress/anxiety is out of control, and we (not the MD) must do something about the stressor or how we handle the stressor.
If this is so, then we are our own medicine since we have the ability to control our minds/emotions and some of us can control or influence the source of the stress, don't you think? For those who don't have much control over their circumstances (like new mom's or ppl who are unable to change their job situation), I think having ppl support is important (of course, this is ideal...I know some ppl may not have the family/friend support they need right then and there). Can also try deep breathing exercises, listening to favorite music, watching favorite movies, reading Holy Bible or favorite books, praying, talking to a friend, exercise, taking a walk, talking a nap, watching/listening to/or reading comedy (laughter is good medicine!).
Hopefully, we can get some answers from someone who's been researching and treating this. You are all in my heart and I am praying for each one of you.
WOW! I thought it was just me...I'm SO glad to find this.
I have had this cold sensation...like something slowly running down the top of my head on the right side, for a few months now....
It always happens about a week or so before my cycle starts.
I am a stressed out, TIRED mama of 3 boys and I was diagnosed with gen. anxiety disorder years ago...I do not take medication for it right now...I DID take Lexapro, but stopped after I got pregnant last year with my 3rd son...he is now 7 months old.
THese headaches have me freaking out!!!
I'm seeing a neuro but not until AUGUST.
My right arm seems 'tired' or 'weak', but I try not to think about it, cause it makes it worse.
I also feel slightly dizzy and just "out of it."
I'm hoping it's all just anxiety related. I know anxiety can cause all kinds of issues.
I'm just SO glad to find that I"m not alone and that it probably is just anxiety. I'm anxious to see what the neuro says.
Today I slept around 8 hours, which should be good but I felt extraordinarily tired, and the back of my head feels kinda cold and weird... it's been a few hours and I just have this ache.. is it anything I should get worked up about or could it just be because my hair was still a little damp last night.. But skimming through this thread I've noticed people are saying they're mums, they've just given birth etc. I'm a fifteen year old girl though.
I get this too, the back of my head goes numb when I'm lying down on a pillow as well. I also read another forum and they were talking about electric shocks in the brain. The feeling of cold water running down my body too. You all must have an MRI. Chances are this is related to the central nervous system. Before you all worry, get an MRI. I have Multiple Sclerosis and this is what causes it with me. It doesn't mean you have MS but you may have something of a similar nature that is much milder than MS.
Do not worry, just see your doc to be sure and have an MRI, they can tell you so much more than a CT scan. My last CT scan said I was fine and the MRI showed different.
There are many things that can cause this and not all as bad as what I have. I doubt very much if stress or bad chakra's or some of the other silly things that have been said here are causing this issue.
One person siad they have fibromyalgia, yes, that is what is causing it for you.
Hello everyone! Phew! Im so glad i found this post! I am 18 years old and i too have had this Feeling of numbness/coldness on the back of my head. This usually occurs when im lying down on my bed. Ive read many of your replies and it seems you're all stressed out. But, nothing has been stressing me(not that i know of) i want to ask if you all have low blood pressure? Bc i believe having low bp causes this backhead numbness. Thank you all for sharing your experience!
i chock in my sleep and lose the feeling in the back of my head it gos numb and i suffer from a lot of dizzy spells and headaches cant eat meals i dont drink but every morning i feel like i have got a hang over feel like i am not here
I get a very cold feeling in my head and I also feel that my hair feels cold. I t feels like blood is circulating but its cold blood.what is this ?im worried. I got a catscan but it was normal. It's bothering I don't think its stress.
I have had this feeling too...a feeling of cold in the right side of my head along with a dull headache and a little bit of uneasiness in my right eye...i wonder if something is indeed wrong with me..But then these symptoms appears only once in a while.i had ignored it earlier as i thought its just my feeling...
I've been feeling this too. First, when I took DXM a month or so ago. And now, only when I meditate. I can bring it on consciously control by focusing on the feeling but it goes away when I stop focusing. It feels like simultaneously hot&cold water or menthol and moves around to various parts of my head. I have some control over it's movements. It's usually in a symmetric patter but not always. For me it's a pleasant and relaxing sensation but I was worried it might be a sign of something wrong. BTW, I take Lexapro for anxiety.
I have been having this feeling with my head being cold for years. I hope I can help with my experince.I actualy figerd out the cause is a draft in my room. #1 do not sleep next to the window
#2 wear a lite hat or scarf preferable to be cotton
#3 try to block any draft that are near your head (for example , if you sleep next to your bedroom door don't leave it open close it )
I found this site acualy because my head resently became extra sensitive. If I shower in the winter, even if I blow dry my hair right away my head still freezes. I explain it to my husband by saying" I feel like a bag of ice is stock to my head " I was hoping to fined a cure and also releave myself by finding out this is something normal. I don't now what to do , I realy don't want to stay like this for ever can't someone find a cure?
freezing spot on brain;
OK, i found this site as a search because i too had an experience of a freezing spot on top of my head on the left side toward the back of the top of my head. i shook my head to stop the sensation and it eased off, then shook it again and i totally got rid of the sensation. This feeling is what woke me up from sleeping. i have recently been going through a yearly check up including a bone density test. i also been having high blood pressure, my age is 66, and post menopausal, and recently in the past 6 months have tried different high blood medications, and hormones estrogen medication, and stopped them all together because of side effects of headache and nausea. so in the past month started taking 'change-O-life' from natures way, and this has helped lower my blood pressure from a recent constant of 193/98 to 155/99, this is much to the surprise of my doctor, but she say it is still high. but note the medication didn't lower my blood pressure while i took it with the side effects, note; i had gotten a home blood pressure monitor. As it is i haven't told my doctor as yet about the cold freezing feeling i got on my head, but i will next week when i go for another office visit. i am waiting until then because i haven't gotten that cold freezing feeling again -not yet-. Now i am not sure if it had to do with ex-rays or, all those different medications that caused me headaches, or that i am not that physically active. but shaking my head did stop it. which can be akin to a physical exercise. i know that if the problem is gone the doctor is not that concerned because then they have no way of finding it. now the only other thing i feel maybe the reason is high blood pressure and causing a mild stroke. and the brain seams to be the one frontier that may still be a mystery to modern medical professionals. i wonder if the ancients knew more and the information is lost. in my search so far i have not been able to find a solution to this exact problem or condition. So it must be uncommon and still a mystery.
it seems that there are lot of women (especially mothers) posting notes in this forum. I am a working mom to with a quite stressfull life. The doctors are trying to get a diagnosis concerning a lupus erithemadeus which they think I have. Lupus is stress related and sun related and it is something similar like Rheuma. I thought that the feeling in my head might come from this illness which mostly effects woman. On the other hand I did a lot of meditation the past few month and I was also thinking if something went wrong during one of the sessions and now this caused this feeling. If somebody find something out from a doctor, I would be really happy, if he could post it. Thanks!
im a 20 year old guy suffering from what i believe is the same kind of thing, although the cold sensation spreads down into my throat and chest too sometimes. i sometimes get shooting pains in areas of my body. I'm sitting here currently struggling to sleep because i worry for what it could be. after reading almost every reply on here i guess the only thing to do is see the doctor and request some tests/scans.
HI, i also experienced for 1 week already, and go to ER and said i have tension headached casued by anxiety or stress. i have mvp also i don't know if this is related due to my heart rhythm abnormalities.
