Q: Alcohol & Allopurinol

My brother who incidentally is also a bartender and habitually involved in alcoholic drinks is on treatment with allopurinol. I have heard that alcohol and allopurinol do not mix well together, and told this to him, but he refuses to listen. Can anyone here support my views?

Drinking alcoholic beverages increases the removal of allopurinol from the body, thereby reducing the effectiveness of the drug.
