I have recently had this heat in my leg it has woken me up several times this week. I thought it was my reaction to the pain killers I was on for my kidney stones. But I have not seen any correlation . It feels like the sun is hitting my leg. It is the weirdest thing..... I thought it was a DVT but it was not. I am at a lost... I am going to get a massage and see if the increased blood flow will help the symptoms.

any body looking for the answer should read up on " THE SCIATIC NERVE" that's what is causing our heat sensation. IT IS NOT neurological. DON'T waste your money. when your sciatic nerve becomes herniated, and through the leg up thru your buttocks and down thru the groin. Trust me had all the same thoughts that it was a blood clot, M.S., etc.... feels worse when you're trying to rest or relax, but it actually feels better when your walking or active. PLEASE READ UP ON THE SCIATIC NERVBbefore you go to far

Uhmm, you're incorrect. That is not what is causing "our" heat sensation. It might be what caused "yours", but don't be so fast to diagnose everyone else, you could very well be leading someone down a very dangerous (if they assume you are correct and don't seek medical help if needed) and wrong path.

For example, my sensations of heat were neurological and turned out to be related to blood clots that were still present on the left side of my brain ... (see my post on March 24, 2012)

Heat sensation in the lower limbs.
I have had the same heat sensation in my left leg today, mostly down in the calf and for the last few days. I have felt it b4 and sought out Medical advice from my Doctor about 6 months ago and he indicated it could be a blood clot and recommended a Ultrasound test which proved Negative. It isn't painful, just alarming and worrisome. I would love to hear others symptoms and Professional analysis and recommendations.

I am a 24 year old male and I also recently starting having odd sensations of heat only in my left leg from the knee just to my ankle. I'm fairly active during the day due to my job but afterwards I'm a couch potato and it seems to be get hotter and happen more often when I'm not active. It has never been painful or even hot enough to become uncomfortable but it's very noticeable and I was wondering if it was a precursor to something more serious.

I'm actually only 15, and I have had this happening for the past week. I only found this discussion because I've been really paranoid and now I'm super paranoid because I'm not saying you guys are old, just I'm a teenager.. So I've done research and it could be a pinched vein, or a blood clot. It's most likely to be a blood clot if you guys are experiencing pain or swelling along with the hot flash. So I'm hoping my mom will make an appointment soon and I'll keep you guys updated it.

heat in legs
I have been experiencing the heat in both legs for the last 2 weeks. Dose not hurt just a heat that I am aware of. It doe not last long (Less than a minute)

I am 34 and am active. I am a fitness instructor. I started noticing this heat after I went to get a full body, deep tissue massage. A couple days after the massage the heat started and has been going on ever since. Today I got it in my cheek and ear. It became really hot. Any suggestions on what is going on? What happened when you all went to the Doctor?

Heyy I am 21 180lb healthy athletic build male in the past I have had stress test on my heart when I had dizzy spells when I was 19 and in 2010 I was diagnosed with anxiety and all the research I have done and replys I have read on numerous websites and my medical knowledge and my own experiences with the same warm sensation in my right upper thigh I would say that anxiety and stress play a big role in that feeling because stress and anxiety will cause your brain to dump all kinds of chemicals that will effect your nervous system and my anxiety has gotten alot better because I have surrpunded myself with positivety and god and if you are a christian I would recommend not telling god about your big problems but instead tell your problems about your all powerful amazing god. And if u are.against the.idea of god then surround yourself with a positive message.wake up every morning with a positive thing to tell yourself or if you are unsure of the.idea of god just show up at your local church and ask the preacher......also if u.drink alot of.diet sodas or artificialsweetend drinks or food cut them off or slow down because all the fake sweeteners contain msg which is a gluten that our brain and body has to work hard to get rid of. Glutens are necessary in nerve function they attach to nerves and thats like our fuel for nerves ...but too many glutens(which comes from msg) will overexcite our nerves and our bodys try thier best to.get rid.of those through our liver and kidneys . Which woud make them work harder and thats not good. Sorry for any misspellings and extra periods im on my cell phone . I hope my information could help.(also if u research msg in what ever you.are consuming then the company will deny but they will contain a form of potassium that is another name for.the same thing and im sorry I cant remember the full name of the potassium but if.you.research.you.will find it ) hope this extremely long reply was helpful God bless you all

Sorry you are wrong about glutens-they come from wheat not msg. Monosodiumglutamate is the sodium salt of glutamic acid and is a food flavor additive in a lot of processed foods. The artificial sugar you are referring to is acesulfamine potassium or aspartamine- both ok'd by the USDA but have been shown to cause adverse effects on insulin in lab animals. I'd avoid them at all costs! You're probably right about God and positive thoughts because both help reduce anxiety and stress. Anxiety/stress send all your hormones out of whack and send your nervous system into overdrive. Thanks for your post-hope you are feeling better!

Try cutting out caffeine
I was so happy to find this board when the same thing happened to me a few months back. It felt like I had spilled hot liquid on my knee, then the sensation would go away after a few seconds. After a couple days the sensation seemed to be happening every 15 minutes. I tried many things to solve the problem: stopped drinking caffeine drinks, drank "green powder" with lots of vitamins in it, drank apple cider vinegar (which seems to cure lots of things, ate lots of ginger (a cure for sciatica) The burning leg sensation went away after two days of doing these things. I started drinking caffeine drinks again, and a few weeks later I started getting what felt like little "zaps" in different parts of my body. They would also feel like they were on the surface of the skin and go away in a few seconds. When I stopped drinking caffeine again, these too went away. Recently I started drinking caffeine again and sure enough the zaps came back. So, for me these nerve sensations seem to be the result of drinking tea! I seem to be able to tolerate one cup a day but if I drink more than that the zaps come back. My recommendation is to cut out all caffeine if you're feeling this burning leg sensation and see if it helps!

I take an 81 mg aspirin nightly along with a pill called Niaspan for cholesterol. One of the side effects of this drug is flushing aka hot flashes on the face or other parts of the body. I started having hot flashes in my both legs about a month after taking 2 pills at night. I have no symptoms during the day and can walk just fine when it happens. My doctor advised me to take one pill instead of two and the flushing didn't happen so often. Last night not only did I have the flushing in both legs I had it in both arms. I got out of bed and applied a cool towel to my legs and arms which helped. This lasted about 30 min. I'm not taking this pill anymore and will speak to my doctor about other cholesterol medications without these side effects. So, check your medications for side effects, you might just find the answers you're looking for.

I was pretty happy to find this board. I have had what sounds to be the same thing happening to me for the past about 4 yrs. I've consulted my doctor but as it comes and goes and I've had other health issues, I haven't really worried too much. He felt it probably was referred pain. It started as a spot of intense burning pain about an inch across. Felt like someone had poured boiling water on the spot - very painful. Lasts a min or five then goes away and that happens several times a week. That's been the pattern for the past years. There is no sign at all on my skin that anything is happening. I've learned NEVER to scratch it. It actually intensifies the pain. Over the years, the spot has increased slightly to about 2-3inches across. Cold packs or walking sometimes helps. What really concerns me is that it is very slowly growing and what if it comes one day and DOESN'T go away? I am diabetic now but wasn't when it started. I had severe gravel rash from a bike accident on that spot but that was 40yrs ago - can't believe that could have anything to do with it. I think that we (doc and I) are going to have to go further into it. I was interested in several of the posts - especially the one about coffee and soft drinks. Both of which I do rather like. thanks everyone

Just found this thread, as this started happening to me several days ago. Maybe five times or so a day, my inner lower left leg (like by my calf) feels really warm and it lasts for maybe a minute or so.
I'm 20 and not on any meds (except allergy medication and birth control). I'm going to start actually taking my vitamins so we'll see if that helps.
Hopefully it's nothing to worry about...but I'm amazed that so many people have been posting on this thread for so many years now and no answer as to what it is!

Update (part 1):
Went to the doctor, but sadly this wasn't my normal doctor and I don't know if I trust this woman or not. But regardless, she says she doesn't think it's a blood clot (I thought it might be due to several posts here & a google search) because there is no pain or swelling (but it could potentially still be a blood clot). She had me get blood work done, so we'll see what the results are in a few days. She also said to stop taking my oral birth control as a precautionary method..

Does anyone else have an update?

Wow there's 12 pages of this and I just read the first one.

I'm 29 and female, been having the heat sensation in my right front calf, only for about a second or two, one or twice a day for the past two days, during the day only.

I noticed a few people have mentioned fatigue - I haven't slept well for 2 weeks and have had significant anxiety due to sleeping in strange places and an unfortunate fear of the dark. Smile I've got some acid reflux happening at night as a result.

Other people mentioned back problems - I'm definitely tight in that area. I've also been eating foods I'm allergic to, so my immune system may be compromised but as far as abnormal behavior, that seems to be it.

same warm sensation
I have the same warm sensation in my left leg. I also have a bit of a sore lower back. I think it could be a pinched nerve or some sort. I am 44 and healthy and active. I am about to see my doc now (Aug 2, 2012). I will write back when I am diagnosed.

I went to my doc today about this warm leg thing. She examined me and said that it is definitely NOT a blood clot. A blood clot would show swelling in one leg, some redness, and warm to the touch. This is definitely not warm to the touch - but a sensation. After some more tests, she said that it is not a neurological problem but probably the start of sciatica. I have been doing quite a bit of weights in the gym (for me) and also sat in a cramped position on the GO Train 2 days ago. Very little leg room and on a hard seat. She prescribed physio and massage therapy. There is also a lot of tightness in my neck, upper back and tail bone - all on the left side of my body. Doc said that since I am right handed, I have probably been straining the muscles on the left side of my body during weight training. Next time I will work with my instructor to skew the weights so that they are even and more effective for me.

Warming sensation in ONE area of body???
This is just so strange!! For about a month, maybe two, I have had a warming sensation at the top part of my LEFT leg...the inner part of my hip. It doesn't hurt, but feels warm. The first time it happened I thought it was my cell phone warming up since it was in a pocket near the area but the sensation keeps coming back at random times...doesn't seem to follow any pattern at all. I have no insurance and haven't even mentioned this to anyone because it seemed so weird... Any answers yet from anyone. BTW I've been taking aspirin products and have managed to live thru it lol. I've felt like I have developed restless leg syndrome but have not been officially diagnosed for this...makes me wonder if they may be related somehow...possibly nerve issues...???

Maybe this might help
After reading all replies and the fact that i have been going through the same after i suffered from intense pain from a nerve condition, i can conclude that this is probably a pinched nerve, possibly starting from the lower back or the knee (I would suggest a warm compress to these areas and see if that helps). Will try the same and keep everyone posted.
